Fancied changing the 335d

hey guys,

Right so after some thinking i decided to part ex the 335d. It was an absoloutly lovely car but no matter how hard i tried with exhausts and remap it just didnt scratch that itch for the big M. I wanted the m3 before i bought the 325d 18 months ago and still wanted one six months ago when i bought the 335d. The m is an amazing car when you have the m button on and hammer it around some twisty roads it just drives like nothing else i have ever been in. you get this buzz out of driving it that i never got in the diesels. one big surprise is the fuel economy its worse than the 335d obviously but no where near as bad as i thought. it will get 300 miles out of a tank without trying to hard . here are some pics and a few subtle mods that have been carried out already. Thought and opinions please. And before i get pulled up on it yes it does need a clean.

Proper car with an awesome combo!!

Congrats.....

Unimpressed with the 300 miles a tank mate... You really need to try harder.... You should be getting less than 180!!!

Lol. The second tank of fuel isn't lasting as long to be honest its at 17mpg but thats city driving. The Mrs and son are in with me most of the time so I take it easy. I get told off if I go near the m button ha. Unless you are on a track though you only need 3 gears. It does like 80mph in second and third gear goes to xxx mph I havnt even gone into 4th on a blast yet I need my license for work.

Lovely car in the best colour combo, I should know as my 335i is the same

One thing I have to ask though, is the interior of an M3 exactly the same as a normal 3 series as that interior looks identical to mine? I thought an M3 would get a slightly better interior?

Hi mate no there's not that much difference to be fair, it has the extended leather on the dash, the seats are a lot more buckety if thats a word and its a lot softer leather. The m button and the I drive wheel and thats about it really.

Ive had mine 2 months. The only time i got 300 miles from a tank was on the 200 mile run back from picking the car up. Im generally getting about 22mpg, or 250-270 miles/tank. Takes a bit of getting used to when I was getting 500+ miles/tank out of my previous LCI 330d. Anyway i didn't buy it for the economy !!

The leather is better in the M3 as standard and it also has better seats,

Fair enough, for some reason I seem to remember the M3 I went in a couple of years ago being a step above the normal 3 series in terms of interior, I guess the extended softer leather and the buckets may have been what I was remembering. The dash etc still looks a little bit too similar to a standard 3 for for my liking though but nothing a few choice selections from the BMW performance catalog couldn't cure

MPG doesn't sound as bad as I was expecting to be honest too, probably worth it for the sound of that V8 alone.

Another quick question, did the M3 ever get the LCI treatment in terms of the lights etc?

Your car will have coral red and the M3 Fox, if I'm not mistaken. M3's have Napa leather where as standard 3 series is Dakota

Mate the sound is something else. I've listened to clips on you tube but its nothing like the car in the flesh. You find yourself driving around with the window slightly down to hear it.

I don't think they have had the lci treatment. There was a brand new one in the show room and it has the coupe pre lci headlights and tails. The blue bulbs in the photo were off car mod shop approx £40 there great not far off oem. they are 40w have 5x8watt led's and are plug and play

Cheers, didn't think the M3 ever got LCI but those bulbs made like it had which is why I asked. Nice one

I think if we weren't thinking of starting a family this year I'd have upgraded my 335i to an M3 already but 2 door coupes and kids don't mix very well
