another squeak question - just below cd / dvd ??

Hi folks,

Sorry to hit y'all with another squeak / rattle / knock thread...

But this one is driving me mad !!

There is a squeak when I go over bumps inside my car - it sounds more like polystyrene rubbing on something than a mechanical knock... it seems to be coming above the transmission tunnel - maybe in the the area just below the cd / dvd slots...

It does seem to reduce when the car is warmed up which makes some sense due to stuff expanding...

Does anybody have any ideas ?? I'd like to remove the cd / dvd unit or the panel below it to have a peek - but have no idea how to do this so any input would be appreciated !!

Thanks,

Ian B

Just had this on mine.
Try thumping the area of trim around the i-drive knob / handbrake area

Mine does this i think it is the plastic trim and clips just under the dvd player which meets the transmission tunnel. Just cheap plastic. I see the newer e90's don't creak there.

I have exactly the same noise from the same part on my car. Coming from a 10 year old Peugeot, it is the last thing I expected on a 2 year old e92. Does anyone know how the trim piece above the centre console and below the cd player clips off?

There are a few threads about how to remove panels around. You might notice that there is some soft material between the handbrake panel and the dash which should reduce any noise. Originally I thought it was some old velco left by the previous owner but I recently had the whole dash out under warranty and they have put some new stuff in almost the exact same place so it must be a known issue.

Instead of paper why not try so soft material like an old sock cut up and careful pushed into place all rolled up tightly so not visible but provides that extra cushioning as the dash panels flex and move.

@idnan

I think to get to this panel you need to start at the top and remove the long piece of dash first and then work your way down. I recall that it is the last panel you can actually get to!!!

Get some felt strips from ebay and glue them between the offending plastics.

Cheers adam and m1bjr, I will have a look and try to sort it out with a few bits of felt/sponge. The noise is doing my head in; especially when going over speedbumps. Not only do I have to endure the rock hard runflats and msport suspension, but it sounds like there is a mouse squeeking in my centre console!
