Walnut Shell Blasting Intake Cleaning

Does anyone know any shops that do this in the RI/Boston area?

Just learned that Inskip in Warwick, RI will do it under warranty factory or CPO. Talked to service manager Keith and he offered that this is a design-warranty issue. Pass the word to all n54 owners in New Engalnd.

Update
The service manager 's name is Kevin . Second , you must have a complaint of erratic idle and inconsistent acceleration at all rpms for this to be considered warranty no pay. Plus either have manufacture warranty or cpo warranty. Good luck and please paas the word to everyone-Inskip BMW , Bald Hill Road , Warwick Rhode Island.

Ugh, I wish I read this before. Just took my car in to Herb Chambers in Boston since it was running horribly (jerky, hesitation). They said it threw codes for injectors, and a low pressure fuel sensor. But, they also said the intake would need to be cleaned, but it wasn't covered under warranty (new or CPO). I wouldn't have taken it there but I was freaked out by the problem and just had to go to the closest dealer.

How can the stories differ like this between dealerships? Do you think I have any recourse to get them to cover this at all? I did take it in for the issues described above.

Going in tomorrow to pick it up so any insights would be appreciated.

I'm still under the factory warranty/maintenance as well by 4 months and 5k miles.

Has anyone else had their intakes cleaned at Inskip by warranty/CPO or any other dealer by that means? Took mine to Sudbury and said that it wouldn't be covered under CPO anymore. Anyone shed some light on this?

They will always tell you it "can be covered". It's just the wording of getting you in so they can open a service order and try to build a case for warranty. Hq has the final day and most of the time it's a no because it's maintenance. Worked as a SA for 3 years.

I'm interested in finding a place for this as well.

the more things change...

I had a '78 530i - my first bimmer (though I'd already owned beemers) that
needed a walnut shell blast years ago. Some place in Watertown did the work
for me.

...it's just a big circle...

Thanks for sharing your input. Looks like I may just have to pay for it out-of-pocket... The issue is getting pretty annoying, though I know its not serious. BTW, seen your car around my area lots of times - parked on Westland Ave. quite often.

Anyone know of a place that can do this for a reasonable price?

I haven't gone there personally, but I am looking for some place to do it asap. Any other suggestions locally to the Boston area?

Just adding more info as I call around. German Performance in Brighton quoted 600, and BMW of Peabody wanted 800.

I booked an appointment for early November here for walnut blasting, along with a brake flush and oil change. I will let you know what I think afterwards, but they generally are a well-regarded shop.

500-800 seems very high, I have friends that had theirs done for 300-350 in the tri-state area.

I just moved to NH, and need it done soon. Does anyone do this job on the side?
