Don't send messges Yoro, go in to your dealer face to face.

If you can't be bothered to go in don't expect them to bother either I always say.

Get the exact spec and price printed out, go and see them and they will match it if they want the sale. They get them cheaper than broadspeed etc (as they all come from BMW UK regardless of who sells them retail), so they can beat them if they want.

Haggle with options and finance too...

The options are the the profit for BMW and have huge margins built in. If a dealer wont budge much on the base price, but you know Broadspeed is 3-4k cheaper. Spec 3k of options and see what they'll do for you.

As doughboy said, face to face is the way to go. Think of it like visiting a business client. You're going to get a better deal if you can sit down with them.

I have to say I really hate the fact none of us REALLY know how much these cars cost.

Amounst many things Tesla are doing to shake-up the car industry for me the 'Direct sale' method cannot be implemented fast enough. That way at least you know exactly how much profit/cost each car is direct from BMW/Audi/VW etc, not some kind of crazy/made up figuer we current see...Thinking you got a bargin because you got 30% off 'List price' is great, but it's not so great if the ACTUAL cost of the item to the dealer was 50% 'list price'.

But then the profit is going directly in Tesla's pocket ;-)

Tesla will end up with dealers too, or are you going to drive your car to America every time it needs a service...

It is frustrating how much the manufacturers have cranked up the price of cars in the recent years.
In 2000 I bought a focus zetec for £9500 - ish.
We are just about to buy a focus zetec for the wife and it's over £20k!! (Book price) we are paying much less.
Cars have become much cheeper to make so why are the prices artificially high..?

The difference is Tesla OWN their dealerships, they aren't run by a third party, and Tesla already have dealer/workshops in the UK. Birmingham is my closest.

Ofcourse they will make a profit, thats what a buissness is, but because they report to share-holders their earning, you can see exactly what the costs are....Unlike now, where its voodoo black magic regarding ACTUAL costs of cars.

Wouldn't you prefer to be able to take your car DIRECT to BMW for a service, rather than a third party dealer who is completely independent from BMW??

Here you go regarding Tesla's profit/operating costs it's all there for all to see....If you can work out what it all means is another matter Though it looks like Tesla have a 25% margin on each car, no idea who that compares to BMW etc?

I would imagine the profit margin on a BMW is much bigger due to the simple rule of economy of scale. They produce vastly more cars than Tesla and many of them share parts and engines.

There are a few places doing that. I think it's a bit underhand. Basically they are deliberately advertising something for a price that they will not sell it at. I wonder at the legality of it.

Yes, Ford are doing this as well, special price only if you take on debt,... crazy!

In the end we bought the wife's B-Max from NCC Sales with a huge discount and no requirement to take finance - the third car we've bought from them and I highly recommend.

We had this when buying our Lexus, you can still get a decent discount though if you sign up to the finance, and than settle it after the first payment.

By law they can only charge 1% of the out-standing debt as 'early repayment penalty'

So if you put in as big desposit as allowed (ours was 30%), your debt will be £20,000. If you than settle the account early, the MAXIUM early repayment charge they can make you pay is £200....So your essentially getting the car for £30400, and making a saving compared to cash.

Because the law is very clear in this area , the finance company cannot play any games, it took me 5 minutes to settle our account with Lexus Financial services, they took the payment (£20K+) over the phone via the debit card, and 2 days latter got the offical letter through about finance been cleared.

Exactly what I did when I bought mine. I often ask for discount for taking the finance

Generally lenders charge 58 days interest or something, which is not a lot. Take the finance and clear it.

The world is backwards these days. Paying cash is no good. Dealers get commission on the finance.

Totally agree, makes no sense at all. The dealer tried to scare us away from paying back early by talking about Lexus will try to claim back the discount if the finance was settled early......A total load of **** The law is very clear on early settlement charges.

All he did was to confirm to me, all car dealers, regardless of brand are just out to get extra £££ out you any way possible, and if it means telling blatant lies, so be it.
