I think your two questions are related. Does your car actually have the factory alarm installed? If not, that would explain why you don't see DWAS and why you don't get a noise on lock/unlock. Either that or you need to update your daten. With regard to the horn, as far as I know, you either get an electronic chirp (only available if you have an alarm) or you get nothing; I don't think any BMWs actually honk the horn on lock/unlock.

Yes the factory alarm is installed and yes I do get a chirp. The problem is that the chrip is faint. I posted a link to the video of it. I wasn't saying that I wanted my horn to go off, I was saying that in the BC, some people say they saw a little icon looking like a horn.

If you read the intro on the DIY, the author was using an actual serial-to-OBD II cable. The USB cable is basically has a USB-to-serial adapter built-in. If you were using the serial port route, your COM ports would be listed permanently, but since that serial port only exists when the USB cable is connected, it doesn't show up until then. You may also have to manually make it COM1 if it starts under a different number, which is done under the Advanced tab.

Has your car been coded for the new alarm? Was it done by the dealership?

If it was done via NCS, it sounds like an incomplete coding to me. Might want to make sure the alarm VO code is added to your VO and process the entire car. You'll need to redo any custom coding you've done after that, but it should update all the required modules with information about the alarm.

You technically don't even have to have COM1 if you don't want to (like I use a VM for installing EDIABAS and use COM1 for printer passthrough to the VM) you just need to update your EDIABAS configuration file to point to the proper COM port.... Easy enough.

I had a shop code it, but it wasn't the dealership. They said they have done several E90 alarms in the past. I don't know how to tell if it was all done correctly. When looking at ALL values, I do see the buzzer so I know its in there somewhere. It currently has the value of wert_04.

They may have not coded it correctly.

They probably didn't code the Kombi for the alarm VO which is why you don't see a horn symbol on your bc stalk menu.

Can you go into your work folder and copy the content in the "FA" file. Paste it here, or send me a pm so I can take a look at it.

Have they been able to explain why it's not working properly?

I still say it sounds like an incomplete coding to me. Especially if you can't see the controls for it when going through the control stalk menus. You should be able to control all the functions of the alarm via the control stalk (or iDrive if equipped) if not, then not all the modules were properly updated.

Alarm is code 302, since it's a retrofit, you should have +K302 at the end of your VO, which I don't see. That's why you don't see the DWA modules in NCS and why you don't see them in the KOMBI when trying to use the control stalk.

Add +K302 to your VO and then "Process Car", you'll have to redo any custom coding (like digital MPH, and such) again but everything should start working at that point.

It all makes sense now. So I guess I do have to go to the stealership.

EDIT, I ready to fast.

So when you mean add +K302 to the VO, is that editing the FA file that I got that list from?

You have all the tools to do it yourself, all you need is NCS Expert, no need for the dealership to do it.

Find the documentation on how to change your VO, add +K302 and then hit the Process Car button with a blank MAN file, presto! done!

And get your money back from the shop who apparently didn't code the car (if they installed it they just physically installed it, didn't finish the process).

I installed it myself. All they did was "code" it, but apparently I can never trust them again. I will look around for adding a VO. Thanks!!

Yep...they didn't code it right.

The document you posted is the correct document to add the VO. This will properly code your alarm system.

Add the code draco pointed out +K302...

Yeah, I was going to point you to ftp://94.212.182.18/Other-Software/U...HANGE%20VO.pdf and just add +K302 similar to the example given.

Same document, you'll change the VO (or FA) and then write it to both the CAS and FRM modules (instead of the LMA like in the example as that applies to E65). Then you can use "Process Car" in Expert mode to recode the whole car for the new VO.
