I think a tire shop could advise you better about that. If you hit a curb when parking there's still a chance you will scratch the rim, depending on the angle and how lucky you are. 255/35/18 would be the other alternative for protecting the rear rims. However 235/40/18 seems a better choice for winter conditions than 255/35/18. Physically its possible to rotate the 18x8.5" rim with 235/40 tire on the front, but it will look a bit odd. My thoughts only!
