E92 M3 idrive knob?
I was at Fremont BMW over the weekend to check out the AW E92 M3 they just got in and i really dugg the new idrive knob (new to me?) it's a brushed aluminum finish VS the rubber gromet/polished one i have now. I looked in an M5 on the way out and noticed the same knob. anyone know the part # for this? Whats involved with swapping the knobs, is it a simple switch? Thanks.

This topic is already covered by an existing discussion thread.
I contacted my BMW dealership two days ago about the availability. According to Jason at Tischer BMW, this knob is "still listed as nationally backordered from Germany, with no ETA". Check Tischer BMW's web site (www.mileoneparts.com). Evan and Jason usually offer the best deals on anything OEM. I am sure when this knob becomes available, it will appear there first!

I bought one on eBay recently. It's indeed, HUGE~ The swap involve popping out your current knob, gut the internal mount, remount it in the M5 knob with Loctite, install.

I just contacted Jason again at Tischer BMW. The part number for the new M3 iDrive knob is 65827839520. He says it is "shaped" different than the knob used in the M5 and M6.
I think I'll wait for the correct knob instead of trying to modify the one for the M5/M6.

FYI, the M5 knob P/N is 65 82 7 837 807. I looked at the M3 knob and compared the two of them. The M3 one seems to have a smaller diameter.

I don't like the M3 knob at all. Thing is huge and there seems to be more play in it than our knobs.
Here's a picture I took:

I like the knob. The standard 3er knob feels too small even though I have a girl's hands.....
Here's a pic of the M5 knob:

I did this a couple weeks ago. It was much easier than I thought. I'm assuming the E92 M3 knob is the same as the M5 knob that I used.
My E90's iDrive knob was a single piece of metal, hence, that wasn't a suitable donor. Thus, I ordered a regular E92 knob from Tischer, then popped out the metal guts. (The four prong connector.) With that popped out, the M5 iDrive knob actually PRESSURE FITTED on to the metal base that I removed from the E92 knob. In other words, no adhesive needed. It's been a few weeks now, and no problem with the M5 knob coming off despite there being no adhesive. Overall it's a pretty easy mod. The difficulty is tracking down the actual M iDrive knob. I got mine on eBay.

It's bigger, but it is not bigger than the recessed circle--plastic area--around the iDrive knob. The M knob covers the recessed area completely, but does not hang over the area. It's bigger, but it doesn't look gaudy.
