$1200 for front brake pads?

Now that my car is out of its factory warranty the BMW dealer quoted me $1200 for the front brake pads?!? Are these people insane or what? This seems way to high of a price. Whats the avergae price for OEM pads? I will get another quote from an independent shop this week

WOW.

They meant $120?

The pads alone on Tirerack are under $100 for front set.

They probably mean pads and rotors? Then I could see that price (at the dealer).

I paid about that much for new pads AND rotors for all 4 (at an Indy).

Hey, if you can't afford the maintenance on a BMW then why did you buy one?

J/K I think there was a decimal point problem with that quote...

Yeah, I'm pretty sure that's the incorrect price you were quoted by the dealer. That or possible rotors were included. The dealer is a complete rip-off, but that price is just completely unbelievable.

Pads: $148.00
Rotors: $178.00 x 2 = $356
Sensors: $26.22 x 2 = $52.44
Other Misc: $20.00
Total: $576.44 -> $600 just in parts.

Obv. the above figure is MSRP parts that are OEM from bmw.

Labor at $180/hr = 3.3 hours total + parts above at MSRP = $1,2xx.xx

For reference I just paid $645 for my rear brakes to be done at the dealer.

I think there is only 1 sensor in the front. Overall, 2 in the car (1 in front and 1 in rear).

Also check out online shops for parts they are much cheaper even OEM. Example, rockauto.com

I bought front/rear aftermarket brakes for $143 after discounts, and several independent shop only wanted $200 to change rear/front brakes including resurfacing the rotors. I decided to grab some friends and changed it myself.
