25 horses

So I have an '06 325 and being what it is, ANY gain in horsepower is a plus. Of course cost is always a factor. Sometimes the cost is miniscule and thus do-able, but sometimes it's just not justifiable. I considered an engine re-flash and consulted with TMS. Well, that got shot down as I was told there wasn't much gain to be had for my application. Then I looked at their "N52 330 Intake Manifold & Software Upgrade for 128i/325i/328i/528i". On the description page they mention a 42bhp gain for my model, PHENOMENAL!, but being a bit skeptical I consulted Marco again. He tells me realistically it may give 25 horse, but he's never dyno'd a car that got the upgrade to confirm what was actual. That said, in my mind he doesn't know for sure if it'll give the 25 he mentioned, less than that or more.

Anyways, 2K+ for parts and install is the figure I've been given, but cost could be cut by at least $200 if I went for a refurbished manifold. I'm not set on this just yet, but wanted to ask if anyone here has had this upgrade done and if so, what kind of gain did you experience? Do you fellas think a possible gain of 25 upwards to a potential, though not confirmed 42hp gain is worth a couple grand? I know if they guaranteed without a doubt in their mind that I'd get a 42hp gain, I'd have done it yesterday, but right now it all just seems speculative at the moment. I dunno.

I don't personally know much about this mod, but just by changing the manifold and the car can produce 25-42hp more? Sounds pretty unbelievable. If anything, it's probably the software upgrade. But then again, all of the models for this mod don't have no blowers so that kind of gain from a tune again seems not that reasonable.

(came from tuning JDMs, i could be wrong!! but just my $0.02!!) Good Luck!!

I sure wouldn't dream of spending $1800-$2000 to get an extra 42bhp from a 7 year old car. It just doesn't make sense.

If you're after more horsepower you'd be better served trading your car in on a newer 335.

My .02

I'd enjoy your 325 for what it is. It's an excellent handing, fairly quick, fairly reliable, well built German engineered car. Nothing wrong with that at all, and they can be quite enjoyable. I know I enjoy my 328. If you NEED more speed, step up to a 335.

^^This. When I realized that the only viable mod for increasing the HP on a 325i would be to assemble parts from a 330i (40 more HP), I saved my money, bought an E92 335i, and for a mere $500 for a tune, added another 80 RWHP. (And it's just a better car all around!)
Still have the 325i, and now whenever I drive it, it feels damned slow!

325 should of got a 335, 335 should of got a blown m3, blown m3 should of got a c63, c63 should of got a porsche turbo, porsche turbo should of got a 458 italia, 458 italia should of got an enzo, enzo should of got a bugatti, bugatti should of got a koenigsegg, koenigsegg should of got an alcohol drag car, alcohol drag car should of got a top fuel, why not just buy a jet? Better yet a rocket lol from what I read the OP has a question about adding more HP to his 325 not his 335. Im not sure what a 335 tune or trading his car in has ANYTHING to do with his question. Dude if you want to drop 2 stacks on your car for however much hp you may get then go for it.

Actually some BMW I6 Engines respond extremely well to tunes and intake manifold combos. For instance the USDM E36 325 with an intake manifold change, intake and tune produced easily 20-30 HP. I'll have to look up the exact figures but it's not uncommon. In the M3 you can reproduce about the same gains also.

For NA engine car, I've always said just buy a faster car. You have do some serious and expensive bottom end to top engine work or bolt on a turbo/blower to get any significant HP/TQ gains.

Now with an OEM turbo charged car, HP/TQ is really cheap, for a used Cobb unit at ~$650 the performance gains are huge......big bang for the buck.

For the $2k the OP wants to spend I think he will be widely disappointed by the results.
