This may seem stupid (Muffler Delete)
So I've been reading on the forums that you can "delete" the muffler on my 2006 330i, but what exactly does that mean? Do i just hoist the car up and simply remove it? Or what do I have to do? Sorry if it's dumb but it's my first Bimmer.

you have muffles on your car, you would need to cut those off and replace it with some sort of pipes. so it terms will be a straight pipe from the cats
i've heard the muffler delete in person on a 330 and i highly recommend it |

Ok i think I get it. Im looking to buying a system from a member on here and his comes with intake, headers, and full exhaust. And while it does sound tempting, I'm also just trying to think about money. Thanks for the insight guys, big help.

any exhaust will make your fuel economy dip because you will want to rev it more to hear it sing! but I doubt it will make much a difference on fuel economy other than that

its exactly what you said, get the car ligted, cut off the mufflers, and put some pipes in its place, if you want it to look good, then get some tips too. if you remove muffler, highly recommend removing the resonator and replace it with an X pipe. sounds epic!

Where's your proof of this torque loss? I feel nothing of the sort.

Dunno about the US, but in Canada if you're caught without a muffler it's bad news.
Best to just delete your resonators and get a sports muffler. |

I felt compelled to reply. I had it done and in24hrs I went back to stock until I do it right. It sounded okay and no drone whatsoever. But honestly this mod is for cars that don't have the level of class a 3er has in my opinion.

it literally means cutting off your mufflers and sticking on longer piping with new tips. personally not a fan of them.

I've done the delete as well. You really can't go wrong with it. Tips and someone to do the pipe work... It put me back maybe $150. It sounds better, and there is no droning.
In cabin it's very quiet, which has left me considering removing the resonators or jumping on some headers. That said, I've heard the car from outside and it sounds fantastic at high revs. In the summer with the windows down it's a very satisfying sound. Just go for it, you're out maybe $150 if you don't like it... It's peas compared to a K you might end up spending for a full exhaust system. At this point the only thing that would ever make me reconsider the mod is hearing another E90 with something that sounds amazing... Everyone and their dog drives an E90 where I live lol, but very few are modded, I haven't seen a single one not running stock exhaust. |

My buddy rocks in IS300 with an HKS exhaust and headers. This setup sounds right into the cabin and I love driving it. I feel a lot more connected to what the engine is doing and there's just something so satisfying about putting your foot down and having that symphony of manly testosterone fill your ears. |

My friend has a muffler delete and it's too loud IMO. I went with a aftermarket muffler and resonator delete route when I had my 325 and it had a nice aggressive clean tone. I see your in D.C, I listed my muffler for sale, lmk if you'd be interested

I have no dyno proof, but the loss in backpressure should reduce low end torque in the car

dont do a muffler delete. do a proper set up. Muffler deletes are kinda ricer in my opinion, some like it though. personally not a fan. You arent driving a honda. Get a proper exhaust system and be done with it.

Same applies with a CAI unless you have some type of forced induction.

Not really a problem on a street tuned EFI engine. On a carburated or mechanical fuel injected engine it would a problem unless you richened up the low speed mixture. Computer controlled engines do not have that problem. The other situation a little backpressure helps low end torque is on an engine that has a very aggressive cam profile with a lot of valve overlap. This can cause too much scavenging and pull unburned fuel out the exhaust port. Clearly, BMW engines do not fit either of these scenarios. What little torque is lost, if any at all, is far overshadowed by the increase in peak power and efficiency.
