HELP -- Wood trim to CF TRIM conversion (What bolts needed?)

"Kev" has been very helpful in providing me with some information regarding what's required in the trim replacement... Anyway, I know that if you have the wood trim, you'll have to replace the bolts/screws for the actual cf-trim (that is, you can't use the bolts from the wood trim in the cf trim).

I know that these are the bolts needed:

P/N for the bolts and pins on the aluminum trim
06 THREADED BOLT D=6X12 7 51416976220 $1.06
06 PIN D=6X25 7 51458266808 $0.78

However, I am unsure as to how many of each I will need to order. Can anyone be of assistance clarifying how many of each I will need -- and what else I will need for the trim replacement? Further, do the bolts/clips/etc. have to be ordered for the dash and center console -- or can I just re-use the clips/bolts/etc. from the existing trim (i know that the bolts will have to be replaced for the door panels)?

Also, if anyone can provide some information regarding any helpful tips in the replacement, that will also be appreciated -- i know that it's a huge pita to replace the ash tray cover -- so i'm just thinking about ordering a new sunglasses tray (P/N: 51-16-7-132-376). Thanks in advance for the advice/help!

I just looked over my cf trim and here are how many slots there are for bolts/pins...

Front doors (7x2)
Rear doors (3x2)
Dash trim [big] (5)
Dash [small left] (2)

Now, are these bolts/pins required as a set? I think the pins are for the center consoles, and the threaded bolts are for the door panels, am i correct?

So, in sum, if you have wood trim, i believe you have to get 20 threaded bolts, and 7 pins altogether. Somebody please confirm this, and/or correct me if i'm wrong! Thanks in advance.

Ok, I went to the dealer and asked how many bolts... They said i need 7 pins, and 7 bolts altogether... however, that really doesn't make much sense to me because the front door panels have 7 slots each, and the rears have 3 slots each for the bolts...

Currently, i am waiting for Tischer to respond to me... I will update as soon as i have information.

Does anyone have any info??

I have an 06 e90... the wood trim's threaded bolts can't be removed. if you remove them, they will no longer fit in the trim. On the other hand, people with aluminum trim can just slide out their bolts...

The total 27 bolts/pins sounds about right. Your seller should be able to help you confirm what you need. And yes, the wood trim bolts/pins are not detachable and can't be re-used.

Thanks for the info... BMW of TOWSON said that i only need 7 bolts, 7 pins... I wasn't sold on that, so i just placed an order w/ tischerbmw for 20 bolts (7x2 front door panels, 3x2 rear door panels), and 7 pins for the front dash... i believe i can re-use the clips from the center console... I will update as soon as i have info... thanks for the confirmation.

Also, i can't contact the seller because i got my cf trim from bavdom about a year ago, and just decided to put this on... and as we know, bavdom is no where to be found.

It's better to have extra parts anyways as you wouldn't want to start removing your trim and find out you don't have enough parts to do the job. From what I can recall I think you can reuse the center console clips so I think you're right on that.

I think bavdom's ashtray piece won't fit so be ready with a dremel kit so you can trim the side, edges and bottom of the ashtray cover. Once you see the original wood ashtray cover you'll see how much trimming you'll need to do.

+1 On the ashtray cover... After not getting it to fit well, I ended up trying to force the crap on and broke the clips off... Then, i just proceeded on filing the sides down and crazy glued the cover on (my new sunglasses tray I ordered just for this reason). Now, it all looks perfect. However, i haven't done the install yet as i did not receive all the parts yet...

Anyway, I went down to Tischer BMW, and Jason Reighard really helped me out. He told me everything i will and might need, so I ordered accordingly.

Anyway, here is what i got:

(07) 51-45-8-266-808 PIN
(20) 51-41-6-976-220 Threaded Bolt
(01) 51-16-7-132-376 Spectacles Tray

The above is all you need for a direct replacement... they are all that you need for the bolt replacement (same as the aluminum trim)...

i'm confused a bit about the spectacles tray that listed here for a replacement part. do you use this instead of the ashtray and if so you would still have access to the cigarette lighter plug?

Thanks

Once you put the specs tray in, you lose the ashtray and cigarette lighter plug. It all gets replaced... However, you can use the cigarette lighter in the center armrest when you plug in the lighter into the plug.

save yourself some time and just ask Evan or Jason @ Tischer. They send these out all the time.

I have a 2011 328 with iDrive and want to switch from piano black to
carbon fiber.

Can anyone tell me if all existing clips, etc. can be reused on the cf.

Thx
