The guys in WA have already come up with a fitment solution and whilst it will work and the car is in fact running it's not to my liking and Brian@TFT has already expressed concerns regarding the design from a performance standpoint. Admittedly the guys just wanted to get the car running and plan to re-design a better solution pending dyno results.

Peter has a couple of ideas on how to make it work and my fabricator mate has a concept or two as well, as there is always more than one way to skin a cat.

Whilst the rear pipe solutions that are being worked on may or may not address the rear turbo inlet pipe for the Super RB Evo turbos, it will not take into account the design and path of the compressor discharge pipe which also for the rear turbo is drastically different in form between that of the LHD and RHD vehicles. You can physically not swap a LHD 335i discharge pipe into a RHD N54, so given that Rob has not taken into consideration the RHD steering assembly when designing the discharge plumbing it ain't gonna' work, especially so when one considers the pipe OD will be much larger than the OEM discharge pipe as that is based around the size of the TD03 compressor discharge port, not that of the considerably larger TD04 housing.

Thanks,

Justin.

Mate the torque handling capability of the Steptronic box will depend upon a number of variables, but as Ian mentioned the TFT intake/turbo inlet kit will not be compatible with the Super RB Evo turbochargers, as the Super RB's are a different animal altogether with their own specific turbo inlet and compressor discharge plumbing requirements.

There are Steptronic AT performance rebuilds available in the US by Level10, but I'm not sure as to what torque handling capability Level10 rates their upgrades at.

There will also be local solutions available in the future so I'm told, but be warned guys the upgrade costs will not be for the faint of heart, lol.

TFT/VTT inlets don't really increase torque, at least not much

just lets the torque hold better to redline.

Hey Gents,

as most of you would know by now, fitment of the supplied 2.5" 90 degree rear turbo inlet pipe is never going to happen on our RHD vehicles and fabrication of a RHD solution is anything but straight forward.

The guys in WA came up with a temporary workaround which a reduced 2-1/2" to 1-3/4" long radius pipe that is used to clear the steering shaft. There is a guy in Melbourne that fabricated a cylindrical 2" pipe that that just clears the shaft with a depression of the pipe as it runs behind the column, which is a better concept but once again not ideal.

However the good news is that after having my fabricator mate spend the best part of 4 days working on a solution, I'm very happy to say we have a product that will exceed the performance potential of the above workarounds.

Peter@Advan will be test fitting my prototype pipe on Ian's car come Monday that is currently fibreglass in construction, after being cast from a mould which was struck from a custom fabricated 304 stainless pipe that has a ridiculous amount of short section full circumference pieces tack welded, that allowed for some ovalling of the pipe where required. The fabricated pipe hugs the firewall adjacent to the turbo inlet and snakes behind the steering shaft, it's a tight fit but the pipe is 2.5" in diameter at both ends whilst being oval where required which allows approximately the same volume to be maintained throughout the length of the pipe.

Providing fitment is spot on and the car tests well on the dyno which I'm pretty confident it will, another fibreglass pipe will be supplied to a sought after carbon fibre maker, he will replicate the pipe perfectly in an autoclave which will ensure 100% consistent fitment of every pipe moving forward whilst also looking very F1 sexy in appearance and quality, haha.

As for a price we have a figure in mind which might sound like a lot, but trust me when I say this was not a small undertaking and I'm quite confident this will be by far the best RHD TFT intake/turbo inlet kit fitment solution available.

Thanks,

Justin.

Once the testing is complete, it would be good to see the before and after dyno charts to see the power and torque gains.

Hey guys,

following a revision I'm reasonably confident the custom rear turbo inlet pipe is complete, well at least the prototype should be good to go.

To retain our original design following a fitment issue we have developed a custom upper coolant line for the rear turbo.

This will be supplied with the RHD carbon fibre inlet pipe, to allow for perfect fitment of Brian's kit on our problematic RHD cars.

The revised pipe plus coolant line will be going back onto Ian's car tomorrow and providing there are no further obstacles another fibreglass pipe will be cast and delivered to the carbon fibre Tech for a production run of 10 units.

I may post some pics I may not, truth be told the hand made fibreglass pipe isn't particularly sexy in appearance but I can assure you the carbon fibre version will be.

Cheers,

Justin.

Any chance this solution will work with MMP inlets? I get a lot of inquiries from RHD a cars and I have to turn them down and I would like to help them out.

Holy thread hijack

That just looks like a bunch of silicon couplers and aluminium piping from the auto store... but it's multicoloured.

If you send me one of your turbo kits, I'll happily be your RHD test car car. Doubt your kit will fit our cars, though.

Sorry if it's a thread jack, was just seeing if I my kit could work for RHD, but if the OP wants me to delete my posts I will delete them from this thread.
