Having said that, I'd always be curious how responsive a smaller turbo would have been.

Every time I think I can finally get turbos, I do the numbers and realise that I'd end up in big trouble come credit card statement due date. I've ordered alloy tube, bends and silicone hose to make my secondary intake pipe to the factory airbox and resonators to replace the secondary cats so I'll just take care of those first and see what products are available once I'm in a position to be able to buy turbos.

Lol mate I'm in the exact same position as you lol also when it comes down to the credit card statement lol

Doing myself at a frend's workshop over a Friday night and Saturday. I'm NOT looking forward to it

I couldn't afford it if I had to pay labour. I used to love doing full on work on race cars etc. but now I just CBF!

At least you have access to facilities ... I will also be finding a workshop where I can rent the space and hoist otherwise the labour will cost almost as much as the parts

My dad used to have a huge shed with a hoist, tools, wood fire, TV, little office with computers. It was SO good. Those were the days!

Good luck with the install and tuning

It's gotta be really easy for the wife to fill the car at the pump. Small 10L plastic jerry can of pure ethanol before filling the full tank with 98.

When you say pure ethanol do you mean e85 or ethanol? If so where are you sourcing your ethanol? I had thought of this year's ago, as we use it in the lab at work, and was unsure if it could be added for automotive use!?

"E98" which has 2% either Unleaded or Methanol so it's legal to sell. It's classified as Denatured Alcohol. Cheetah Race Fuels is where I have got it in the past in 200L drums but they've put their prices up quite a bit. I once could get 200L drums for about $330 shipped to Hobart but now it's closer to $470. I've asked for a quote from Bio Race Fuel who also sell it. I'll probably buy it 4x 20L drums at a time this time rather than 200L at once due to the financial outlay and possible shelf life issue (although I've never experienced shelf life issues using a 200L drum over the course of nearly a year).

I could drive 40 minutes to get United E85 but if I'm running a small % blend, I really want to be getting max benefit so I don't want to be using something that has 15% 91RON unleaded in it.

Ahh right interesting!

I'll have to hit up our chemical supplier by memory we buy a carton of say 10 in 5L jugs, was thinking there would be all different grades of ethanol?

There is 100% pure food grade Ethanol for use in mouthwash etc that you need a licence from the ATO to buy and there are very strict restrictions. The rest is Denatured Alcohol, which usually has 2% composition of non-drinkable solvents so you don't use it for cheap booze. I'd be pretty happy using any of the variants to mix with fuel. If there's a data sheet or MSDS that state what makes up the very small composition of other stuff, you could research if that will play nice, but I suspect it will always be fine.

Like yourself I dont reside near a united servo, so something like this may be very handy especially when I'm only running E50 and fill up every few months or so..

Haha exactly!

Having said that there are no E85 pumps in the Newcastle united stores, it's weird...

We have to go to Cessnock or Metford which is on the way to the vineyards so to speak out in the sticks! I generally fill up at Ourimbah on my way home from Advan on the freeway as advan is my only destination for the past 12 months!

I understand taking time to make decisions, but I'm guessing you haven't had older cars that were turbocharged. My last turbo car was a 1995 240sx with an RB25, and before that engine was a CA18, and even further back an SR20 with a much larger turbo than stock.

Coming to these cars, turbo lag doesn't even belong in the same discussion. You haven't seen lag until you've seen a 2.0L spool a GT3571R, lol. I swear you get a countdown as the turbo gives you time to ponder whether you're really ready for the boost that is coming around 5000RPMs.

Get the upgrade man, and you won't even notice anything other than a turbo that doesn't fall on its face.

This is my last car which I built myself from 100% factory condition (This is the next owner after me's for sale thread, not mine). Before that, I built an S14 drift car from factory condition.

I don't want that type of power delivery for this car. I have bought RR600s anyway.

For those in Sydney interested in 99% Ethanol / 1% ULP (Max legal ethanol blend to sell), these guys sell it in 200L drums for $2.20/L:
