Thinking of 323i

Hi Guys,

I am in the market for a BMW or Mercedes C Class. Don;t worry its not a comparison thread I am starting.

I don't mind both cars and I think it will come down to price. My company has corporate plans for both manufacturers.

I have my eye on a Demo White 323i with the following options:

2008 MY09 with less than 1000km
- Sunroof
- M sport Pack with 18 inch
- Innovations Pack
- PDC

Other option is the Benz

2008 MY09 C200K Avantgarde Brand new white
- Comand Sat Nav
- AMG Pack with 18 inch AMG 5 spoke wheels
- 60/40 split fold seats

RRP for these vehicles is around 78k to 78k Driveaway respectively.

Do you think it is realistic to ask for around 65k drive away as these are really 2008 built vehicles.

Seems that people are getting huge discounts on the 335s so i am sort of going off that but I do realise the mark ups on the more ex models are higher thus larger discounts available.

I have driven the C class and it is comfy, used to have a E46 323 which was good too, but have heard stuff about runflats now and planning to test drive the 3 this weekend.

Finally, how do you go about getting written quotes for the best negotiated price without signinig on the dotted line. I find this really hard and would like to get some tips on how you guys do it. Obviously, I want to get at least 3 quotes before I go ahead with the purchase. they always need to go to their manager to get the price and tell me that if you are serious and ready to buy, I will talk to the manager.

Thanks for reading and hope to get some useful advice.

Cheers!

Interesting...who is quoting you $78K driveaway for a 323i Sport? Adlaide Motors are asking $79K for a 320i Sport with the same options.

how is the R8? are you thinking of moving to the beemer camp?

I have a 325 and, great as it is, there are days when I yearn for a big muscle car V8...hence I was curious when I saw a R8 owner on this site

The decision is easy 323i = 6cylinders, c200k = 4 cylinders.

that simple, case closed!

Thanks for the reply guys.

I just went for a test drive in the 320d today. I have to say I am impressed. Great engine. Much better than the C200k in terms of power.

I didn't even bother test driving the 323i after that. I remember the E46 323i we had was not that responsive taking off until you hit a certain rev, usually after 3000rpm then it really goes.

The 320d just goes!!!! Quite amzing, only sounded like a diesel on the outside.

As for the 78k driveaway , well its roughly around there. Sydney dealer I think. Can't remember which, he called me up while I was on the way home and just had a quick chat.

I was able to get a rough price today for 2008 built MY09 complied 320d with following options
- M Sport with 18 inch
- Innovations pack
- Sunroof
- Non metallic colour

For around 70k driveaway and thats without bargaining as yet. I asked if he could do better and he said he will if he can and will call Monday to let me know what other colours available.

Also not so sure about the business Nav now either, seems really hopeless. Screen looks low res, and the fact that you can only play music via USB while navigating is kind of a let down. But will be paying a high price for Pro version?

Is the pro version worth the extra 4.1k??

Cheers!

The e90 323i has the same power output as the e46 325i.

The R8 is a brilliant car, if you consider that it is essentially a Commodore with a big engine. The basis for the VE was in fact the previous model 5-series and to be honest even the base model Omega drives pretty damn well - great ride, sportly yet comfortable ie. well tuned for Australian roads. FFS you can do 0-100 in 5 seconds for $65K, yet still trundle around in comfort over our crap roads.

To be honest, it's a very good car, but it does have limitations, both in the car itself and the after-sales service. It's been reliable enough and the servicing is good, but having experienced a European before, my standards are set pretty high.

I'd always intended the R8 to be a one-off and main reasons I went with an R8 were:

- Pissed off with Audi for not trying hard enough to retain my business: I'd bought 4 Audis and they just wouldn't offer a good price on a 5th one.

- I figured there'd be few remaining chances to own a V8, with fuel prices and eco-madness.

- At the time the BMW Full Circle programme couldn't offer me a suitable mileage-per-annum choice (I currently do high 20s per year).

Anyhoo, the dealer had their floor model 320i with M Sport, innovations pack, 18s, sunroof and metallic paint listed at $79ish OTR. I thought this sounded pretty OTT so I'll certainly be talking to dealers interstate.

The $79K they quoted for the 320i is the full price made up of $70,360 RRP for the car & options (as per the online configurator), plus ~$8K for on-road costs ($3,995 dealer delivery + stamp duty + rego, etc).

Based on other threads, a 10-15% discount is possible in the current climate.

you are going from a V8 to a 320i - are you sure you have thought this out??

I love my beemers but I thinkg a 320i would be a mistake for you after a R8..

you should be looking at the 335i

I wish they had the 125kw 320i here. Australia is always getting short changed.

I think the reason why we don't have the 125kw 320i here is because our fuel are dirty compare with the UK and other European countries.

TBH the 320i doesn't really interest me at all, it is under power compare with Audi and the Merc, and with that 70k+ price tag (when you opt the M-Kit and the Inno pack) it is really over-priced imo.

yeah you are right Zen, underpowered it is compared to the competitors.

I just got off the phone with the Merc dealer. Best they could do for the Merc with AMG pack and Sat Nav with 18 inch AMG wheels was $76800 driveaway. (corp plan)

For a 320i with m-sport and innovations pack, I think we should be able to get 60 to 65k driveaway. For 320d, probably 2 to 3 k more. (corp plans as well)

I have no idea what to do. Also looking at second hand which could be the better option as the prices seem to be pretty good at the moment

I have until 31st March to decide lol, thats just too much pressure if I want to take advantage of current 3 series promos

The current 3 series promos only avaliable on dealer stocks? Or does that also apply to any new car order before the 31st?

IMO 320d is the better choice over the 320i, at least you don't have to pay extra on LCT, and you could probably option the 320d a bit more.

Yeah, its only available on anything delivered by the 31st of March so time is ticking. Yeah the 320d is a much better drive but stocks are limited and dealer mentioned current stock is 6 black and 2 space grey.

However, all with walnut interior trim... yikes. Not a fan.

Maybe I should wait and order the colours I want but that may cost an extra 4500 bucks as that is the discount they are offering at the moment

As far as I know the List price for Dealer Delivery is still $3,995 for a 3er. I know they discount the fee for corporate/full circle programs, but at $79K, it doesn't look like they included any discounts for their 320i floor model.

Can anyone who recently bought a 3er confirm the DD fee?
