hahaha, Scheps,I never expected this thread to get so big. Thought people were gonna tell me to buzz off and just get the BMW as it is an e90 forum haha.

Glad I posted though as I have gotten good opinions.

Yeah the 5 Series does have an M-Sport Option but I think like the 3, if it is not selected from factory, it will cost a bomb.

Yeah 320D could be the one I push for this weekend. It is a dealer demo though. There's really only 2 available which are both dealer demos. One in Silver and the other Space Grey. I think both with about 3000kms on the clock. I am of course iffy about purchasing a demo as we all know what everyone does when they test drive a car. What are your opinions on this?

Other factor is I originally wanted Alpine White. So if I go the diesel, I will have to make some compromise which is ok.

As for the Audi, spoke to my missus about it last night. She said, her words exactly "the Audi doesn't do it for me" hahaha. Funny girl, does this mean she is a badge snob??? haha

personally i wouldnt care as id drive it hard period. however if you are iffy about it, see if they will extend the warranty, so if you only plan to keep the car for 4 years, a 4 year warranty would be sweet.

I wouldn't be worried at all about getting a demo, after all you get to test drive it before you buy it. I was really worried that I would get a lemon, but luckily both my new purchases have been OK.
I did get a Z3 2.8 once that was used in the celebrity race for the Australian GP. It turned out to be perfectly OK, actually great to drive.

ok so the weekend is over and I test drove the 320i. I was a little underwhelmed. The car is very underpowered and I didn't enjoy it mainly because the transmission kept jumping around to find the right gear making the car jerky.

I decided the diesel is the only way to go. We started searching through all the cars in Australia and was unable to find one with my trim so I walked out without purchasing one.

He seemed pretty unhappy. Then today I receive a call from him. He found one to my specs and its even a 2009 built vehicle. He said apparantly it is not on their system because the car was ordered as a company vehicle for BMW australia.

He gave me a price and said thats the best he can do. I countered with my price and I am now awaiting a response from him.

You won't regret the 320d if you go that way. We picked up our's last week - fabulous car.

What options/colour/trims are you looking at on the 320d? Are you unable to order one if you can't get the options/price that you want? That's what we did.

Options were White, Msport with 18s, Innovation pack , sunroof, black leather and brushed aluminium trim.

He has not called me back. Hmm probably found another buyer. Anyhow, I am in no rush. He was really pushy over the weekend and when talking to me, was not really looking at me. Eyeing other customers walking in the door. Plus serving others while serving me so I was kind of not happy with that and that already made me feel like not purchasing.

call another dealer and get them to give you a price.
They haven't purchased the car from BMW just yet, so any dealer can get it. They may have put a hold on it, but they can't continue to do that forever.
if you didn't like his attitude, get it elsewhere.

Yup, if the salesperson was being plain ruded, then either go elsewhere or come back at another time and get another sales rep.

Did you drive the 320i in D or D-S mode? I'm no expert, but maybe if it was driven in D-S mode, it will hold the gear and rev a bit longer and maybe it will jerk less.

Couldn't agree more - there is no reason to do business with any dealer that doesn't give you proper service - there are plenty of others, both at that dealership and others that would love to have your business.

If you're in Sydney, go down to BMW Sydney @ Rushcutters Bay.

Importantly, don't let a rude dealer put you off the car - the 320d is a great vehicle.

I have emailed another dealer this morning to see if he can get the car and offer the price I am after. Still no response. You would think in tough times like now, they would make more of an effort to get your business.

Today is however the last day of the 5k discount they offering on 320d. So if no one is willing to deal then I will wait it out and see what happens. I am sure there will be deals after deals appearing in the next few months as the market slows even more.

I had a call from a nice VW dealer yesterday as well haha. Must have been after I wrote in a complaint to VW about their service. Maybe a VW could be on the cards if they can push the correct buttons this time.

have you tried interstate dealers? i would recommend daisy hill brisbane but not sure about others. You may not want the headache of DOA type problem tho.....

What do you mean by 5k discount? is that the total discount they are giving you? surely not??!?

call them perhaps more so than email? esp time is of essence? possibly more convincing of being a serious buyer with call over email?

dealer showed me a list. Its called BMW Support Money or something like that. Basically if cars are sold and delivered by 31st March 2009, BMW proivides them support money for the cars.

for the 320i/320d that support money is $4995. Thus the dealer can pass this saving on straight away plus whatever other discounts the dealer is willing to do.

For 323i its like $7.2k and of course, higher the car the more support money. I can't remember the rest

ah ok, but that means the discount they are willing to give you will be reduced as you will have perceived to have had the discount or benefit of the 4995 passed on.

So is the promotion a real promotion? I guess depends on how much more discount the dealers allow after the 4995.

Keep us updated on how you go with securing a deal. My parents might be going to trade the X3 for an X6 4.4L TT if the deal is right.

Looks like no deal for me at the moment. The promo with BMW is over. I will have to see what comes up in the next coming months. Really stung about that. But I have to be patient. For once, i want to be happy with a car that I purchase.

LOL at the anti climax!

but in all seriousness, that sucks mate, but yep the worst thing is buying a car in which you are not happy with, keep an eye out, and i still reckon the economy is going to go downhill, so maybe they will get quite desperate in the coming months!
