Alarm Question and Vandals

Saturday night some scum of the earth decided to kick my rear lights in smashing them both while parked on my own drive
I was wondering, should the alarm have sounded?
As the car was on my drive I heard nothing. I wouldnt even know what my alarm sounded like!
Is there any way of testing the alarm?

Hold in the boot open button for more than 3 seconds, should put it into panic mode, then press any button to stop it.

I didn't think UK-spec cars had panic mode? I tested mine yesterday by popping the bonnet, holding down the bonnet switch (on the scuttle panel, in front of the passenger-side wiper on the E92/93) and locking it, waiting 30 seconds then releasing the switch.

Lock the car with the remote. Then use the key to get in.

There's no shock sensor. Alarm goes off if any of the doors open, boot, bonnet or there's movement inside. Also it'll go off if the car is being jacked up or towed.
