It's at times like this you wish you had a touring. Or are small. Hope you find the keys mate.

The lost key can be deleted from the ECU, you just need to find someone who will come out and do it..

Will the keys in fact be found in the fridge or that cupboard where he keeps the brown sauce because one of them had a bit of a 'senior moment'?

Well I managed until 6:30 in the car so not too bad an effort!

Had the one key deactivated today for £48 and a new key ordered for £150, apparently they programme themselves when you put it in the dash so I'm not getting stiffed on recoding charges.

Luckily have spoke to my house insurance and they will cough up for it. Not quite so angry with the wife now!

How do they de-activate a key they do not have in their possesion?

They erase it from the EWS - they don't need to have the physical key which is the point if it gets lost or stolen.

Mind you, a total of £200 - is it worth claiming on insurance? After excess and then next year's increase......

Something to do with serial numbers in the keys and some other technical crap I don't understand. Stupid things is though that they said IF someone had my keys and found the car they could still get into it, just not start it!!

£50 excess and bargain on my insurance next year. I've claimed before on little things and never had a price increase because of it

that's because the key fob has the physical metal key inside it - you'd have to change the actual lock cylinder in the door to prevent that.

It would be my luck that if I didn't someone would of had it! I get a bit protective over things especially my car and if some little wanker tried to take it he'd get a good hiding off me

Yep. I had to have entirely new locks fitted when my key was stolen from the house, as the police reckoned they would come back and use the key blade to get in, then most likely trash the inside of the car when they discovered that they couldn't start it due to recoding. I paid £500 for new locks and keys and didn't claim on the insurance as my excess is £400 anyway and I already had a claim in for my stolen mirrors.

Sir,

I commend you that was a cracking read and although you probably didn't appreciate it at the time you made a few old BMer owners smile.

Slightly off topic but I have a friend who parks his DB9 in his garage, beside it he has a bed and a tv on the wall. I think he sleeps there every night! Lucky bastard is single.

All sorted now, cost me just over £200. Keys still yet to be found!
