Shift knob interchangeability?
Hey guys,
I just had a quick question I was hoping someone could help out with. Does anyone know if all of the "press on" type shift knobs are interchangeable between models over a certain number of years? As far as fitment goes. The reason I ask is because I've been trying to find an e24 Alpina shift knob for my e92. It's gonna be pretty tough to find, I know, but before I go searching I figured I should find out if it would actually fit. Thanks in advance |

I know for sure the E30 and the E90 have the same shifter diameter because I transferred my Momo shift knob from my E30 to my E90. I'm pretty sure all BMWs back to at least the 1980s use the same shaft size. My E90 shifter fits my 1997 Z3.

A manual transmission can be set to "comfort", "sport", and "track" modes simply by the technique and speed at which you shift it; it doesn't need "modes", modes are for manumatics that try to behave like a real 3-pedal manual transmission. If you can money-shift it, it's a manual transmission. "Yeah, but NO ONE puts an automatic trans shift knob on a manual transmission."

That would be a pretty cool knob. Hope it works and good luck finding one!

Cool, thanks for the info guys!
I'll probably just start searching for one. Worst case scenario, it doesn't fit and I have to buy an e24 to put it in.. |
