Carbon Fibre door mirror fitting anyone ?

I have got the BMW CF performance door mirror covers and in the box there is also a narrow roll of foam backed tape. Does anyone know where this is for ? When I fitted these to my 135i, they just clipped straight on and nothing else was involved.

I have these but cant remember what I did with the foam (is not with the original covers) is there not a diy somewhere perhaps one of the yank threads?

I have searched and cant find anything. There was a video on a pre LCI one and they just pulled them off and clipped the new ones on. No foam backed tape was used or shown
