JB4 First Impressions

So after spending the whole weekend trying to install the pinout JB4 I just decided to put my car back to stock and overnight the PnP harness from Terry ( should have done this in the first place…so much cleaner)

Got everything connect yesterday afternoon, setup the steering wheel controls, routed the USB Shout out to "Damacpro91" on the N54 forums for making an OSX port of the JB4 software. Fkn awesome.

Anyways threw it on map 5 headed out to the freeway to do some pulls. First pull fine, second SES light limp mode. Didn't have my laptop with me and honestly didn't feel like reading the morse codes. pulled over cleared out codes only to experience same thing. rough idle. Decided to give it a rest for the night.

Scanned codes this morning got the misfire in Cyc 2. Swapped the coils over with number 1 cyc to determine if it was plug or CP. Codes are gone? Cars running like a champ. Just got back from dumping 70 bucks worth of gas on map 5. I have never purchased any mods for any car at any price that have been so enjoyable.

Some have reported that it pulls like a freight train on map 5, honestly its way faster than stock but I don't feel that. I had a 550 Awhp 3000gt vr4 that pulled like a freight train.

Did some logs but didn't realize they don't autosave. Anyways peak boost was about 12psi. Car is 100 percent stock minus the Jb4. Is this about what I should be seeing?

Also how long does it take to fully auto tune? 3 days?

For those with the AT I was kind of curious if you are flooring it from a dead stop in DS1 and getting wheelspin? I'm not launched at 2300 and got just enough, actually was surprised how smooth and refined it launches felt perfect. unlike my 06 vette I had that felt like I was letting go of a bottle rocket and had no clue where it was going to go.

What map do you guys use to cruise on for best fuel econ etc?

lastly how long should I wait to try some e-85?

well map 5 takes 3 full 3rd gear pulls to "adapt"

Just stay off boost for best mpg

try e85 when your car is running 100%. I would try to use another map like map 1 to see if you are hitting target boost. If you're not then there is something wrong. 12 psi on map 5 is kind of low, so i would check for any boost leaks, maybe update jb4 firmware

12 PSI on Map 5 with 91 Octane is what I was seeing, Map 1 would boost to 13. Map 5 with 25% e85... now that is a different story. 15-17 PSI and at that boost you will get the freight train feeling. Try some e85 you will he amazed.

if you're stock..well since u have 91 too.. i would just run map 1 for more consistency and safety. map 5 auto tuning is cool wen u mix some e85 or race gas otherwise i used map 1. u don't really have to wait to try some e85 (start at 25%, log, and increase by 5-10%) but if u got misfires on 91 u might just want to replace all ur spark plugs just to be on the safe side and not have that issue come up later as u mod more or run higher octane/map

Map 5 is garbage on 91. It always ends up autotuning to around 12psi no matter how long you give it. Stick with map 1 and it will be a good yet conservative, consistent amount of power.

Everyone is right, map 5 with say, four gallons of E85, will smash almost any car you race. I started with 5.5 gallons my first try and I hit the speed limiter at 155 HARD (Mexico of course). Haven't lost a race yet, made the new mustang GT look like it was in reverse on the highway. I guarantee you will have a new found respect for your car.

i wouldn't recommend 8 gal, but he's had good luck with it.on map 5 with 5 gal in the tank. you will be happy. i feel you really need an inline pump at 8 gal of e85 in the tank

JB4

Well finally got around to upgrading to the JB4...took me a few days to decipher the new pinout, but finally got it up and running. Put new plugs and coils in also. Got a chance to take it out on the toll road and holy shit....pulls like a freight train is a good way to describe it...was scarry at first, but I had a shit eating grin the whole time... log says I hit 16.5 PSI in 2nd gear at 4700 RPM on map 5. This on 93 oct with DP's BMS CAI and AE exhaust..cant wait to throw some VP gas in it and try again....

Spot on with the shit eating grin. I have owned a ton of performance cars in the past two years. My most recent was an 06' M5, before that a 11 e92 ZCP m3 and I can honestly say my 335 "feels" far faster, however I had an RPI exhaust on the M5 and it was intoxicating. The M3 was bone stock but 335 feels no where near as confident in the turns. Anyways I told Terry to keep my core charge for my pinout harness and send me some new plugs and DCI haha. I'm replacing the coils and plugs before I put any E-85 in it.

Can any one confirm Autohauz is the cheapest for coils @ 40 a piece?

I do love that the 335 is somewhat of a sleeper, there is a good looking chick that lives down the road that has black vert. I thought about chasing her down and asking her .." If she even JB'4's?" but Im all muscled up with tatts and she prob would bust out some mace and a rape whistle.
