Catless Ar dp + Bmw Performance exhaust too loud?

I'm thinkig of getting a bmw performance exhaust. Would it be too loud with Ar catless downpipes? My car is daily driven.

Thanks

I see you have an XI ... do you have the secondary cats still?

I have a regular I with the AR 4" DP and BMW PE. Here's a vid of mine,

It is extremely loud on cold start. Several people on this board have heard my exhaust. Standing behind the car on cold start ... you can't talk to someone standing next to you and I usually cover my ears. If you're on a street with whiny neighbors or a parking garage, forget it.

It does sound incredible though. Driving normally it's not a bother. No drone. Very quiet if you're just maintaining speed. Heavy acceleration can be heard for at least a mile or two, depending on the environment.

Thanks! Yes I do have the secondary cats, I guess it will lower the exhaust note a bit.

The BMW PE for the E92 is just mufflers, so the rest of the stock exhaust is kept intact. Originally I had just the PE mufflers and stock DP - you don't see too many complaints about that around here, certainly none from me.

Then I added the DP. Everything got louder plus I got the sound characteristics of the DP, but no drone added. It only amplified what was already there.

It's subjective. From comments on this board it seems like more aftermarket exhausts than not introduce drone. I haven't narrowed down what causes drone but I believe it has something to do with the mufflers; BMW is onto something with that connecting pipe.

Yes, I was told it was 90% from the mufflers. Which, for one, I thought BMW PE (being one of the more LOUDER exhausts) would create a lot of drone when paired with a catless DP.
So, when you have no music playing and windows rolled up going on the road you don't have your brains mushing out of your ear?
Are you sure? I hope we have similar tastes. I like loud, but I can't stand vibrations in my head for 20 minutes.

With cruise control on, it's not much louder than stock. There's no ear-piercing whine, etc. This setup doesn't hurt the driveability or long-term comfort of the car.

Really, everyone says it is extremely loud and can be raspy. I'm very surprised to see you say that.
My AE exhaust droned and drove me crazy, and it was supposed to be "tame." I couldn't imagine anything else (ie Vanguard).

I've read of a guy that got rid of his BMW PE (stock dp) because it had the tiniest amount of drone. So opinions vary.
This setup, I can cruise for hours on the highway. If you step on the gas, sure it gets louder inside but it's a nice refined sound.

BMW PE is not uncommon, get a ride in a car with it. Best advice I can give.

Awesome some. Very impressive.

On your driving around portion, are the windows down the entire time?

thx

Yes they were fully down -thanks for the compliments. The microphone is clipped to the moon roof slide cover about 1.5 feet from my ear.

Anyone gone from catless downpipes to adding this have an idea how much louder the cold start is? I noticed the cold start was way louder after the dp. I really want to do the pe oem muffler mod and I'm sure when it's warm the sound isnt too loud but I just can't do that to my neighborhood if the cold start is gonna be alot louder than it already is :/ I've already seen my neighbor jump twice haha.

I had this setup, very loud cold start, slightly raspy as well. I had a muffler shop install 2 resonators and it sounds much better now….

I have the same combo on mine. AR 4-in and the PE. It sounds amazing and while doing 80mph on the highway in 6th (I have a manual) you can't even hear the exhaust until I step down on the accelerator to pass another car or drop a couple gears to pass another car like an asshole lol which I prefer more.

But he's right. Cold start is RIDICULOUS. I feel bad for my neighbors. It shakes the glass on my house.

I personally have AR cat-less DP's and BMW perf exhaust. There is NO DRONE! EVER!
I personally love it and think it is the best sounding exhaust for our N55 engines! My car is E92 and no X-drive so I do not have secondary cats either. Ive had the setup for 2-3 years now and still love hearing it!

You don't have a sound clip of your setup do you?
would be good to see how a pair of resonators affect the overall sound level. I also am doing the PE mod with downpipe but know its going to be too loud. I wonder if adding a pair of resonators creates the perfect balance of power / sound.

I know this topic has been beaten to death but I still would like to get a bit more clarity . Most of the videos I have seen involved N54 or N55 coupes.

I have a 2011 335xi (N55 ) sedan currently with BMW Performance exhaust and Eurocharged tune. I am thinking of getting a catless DP to make the most out of the tune and need some help/advice.

I want to know from someone who has this setup, how loud/raspy it will be. Will it drone at all on the highway? I have been told that on our n55xi sedans we have a secondary cat in midpipe as well as a factory resonator so it should be okay. Does it make sense to replace the factory resonator with 1790 Vibrant resonators or that is more or less for people that have coupes that do not have a factory resonator in place. I currently like how my car sounds and don't want it to loose that BMW refinement.

Can anyone with E90xi n55 sedan pls comment if you have this setup. I need some help/advice deciding if I should go ahead with the catless dp or leave it as is.

Thanks guys!
