Discussion: Camber settings (not OEM - via performance not stance)
Hi guys,
I did a few searches and found a few threads that just seemed to die out. I wanted to start a thread about camber settings (toe included) to see what everybody was running, their thoughts, tire life span and overall feedback. I have the M bits so I was previously running -1.5 F -1.8R; however, I recently wanted to adjust it for a bit more aggression and handling without (no offense to stance guys) having it look too silly or not function as it should. I adjusted my camber specs to -2.25F -.2.5R and seem to have noticed a bit more grip in corners. Is it mental? I don't know. Anyways, I was curious to see what everybody else is running outside of stock. I did noticed my toe was a bit off on my previous alignment, so I tried to zero in those as close as possible (-0.18) etc. Have any of you guys found the 'sweet' spot that provides handling but conserves tires? I know this is like saying how can I run a mile and not sweat, but there has to be a middle ground - right? Edit, I forgot, we're visual people here, picture of after the alignment for attention and to get things hopefully started: She's a dirty moo-cow, excuse her.

You are mental. But seriously there is more grip up front with the additional camber. I would get the toe back to OE specs (slight toe in) for day to day driving. This will give you a more stable steering feel. Going to zero toe statically invites a darty front since under load the fronts probably start to toe out and the front will begin to wander and readily go left and/or right. Steering will definitely be quick, but the trade off is straight line tracking.

My current set up
FRONT : -3* Camber w/ .11 Toe (OEM) REAR : -2.1* Camber w/ .16 Toe (OEM) My rear I got about 30K miles out of them (PSS) with a lot of agressive driving. (No Auto-X/Track Usage) I just went to my new front alignment specs and will keep you posted. Im hoping I can get 20K out of them, but Im not holding my breath. I do have lifetime alignments and get my alignment checked every 6 months at the least. (They love me) My old set up was a smaller wheel/tire and less camber up front. I will say that my car has very aggressive turn in. The car still tracks straight and doesn't follow any crowns. It will follow grooves in the road if they are substantial enough. I DD this car about 70 Miles a day with a mix of Bumper-Bumper and highway travel. Honestly, my car doesn't look silly or stancey. It is very purpose built and I love it.

Did you guys have to remove that alignment pin up front for more camber articulation?

For anything over -1.5 you need camber plates. With M3 control arm and removed pin you get on average -1.3 |

You need to post the tires tread wear index, tire pressure, driving style and your alignments specs. It would be impossible for someone to answer your question with out that info.
