He used 2 liters of a "distilled water/cleaner" to flush the I/C. The amount of sludge that came out was surprising. The picture shows the result of the flush. We used seven gallons of distilled water to flush the system after use of the cleaner.
ok cool....any details on the actual procedure? What kind of cleaner, just a degreaser i'm assuming?

I'm planning on flushing the intercooler on my M3 soon, so i'm curious as to what BMW recommends on the n54

Purple power with water in the IC followed by shaking it for 30 seconds, drain, and repeat a couple times works real well. Just flush it with a garden hose after that. Done it many, many times with other cars.

It's the stuff the dealer uses for flushes. Unfortunately, I don't know the name of the stuff.

In the past, I used gasoline on several IC's and it works well. Not to mention evaporates quickly too.

This is the exact reason I ordered a Riss Catch Can. If you want to protect you intercooler, especially everyone of you that have an aftermarket intercooler, spend the $100 for the protection! Bubbles that looks horrible!

No, not with my current 335i. In hindsight, an oil catch can would be my first mod.

It looks worse in person. I'll know this weekend if performance improves.

That oil in the IC couldn't possibly help performance though!

Nope, just let it sit for about an hour after proper draining.

It works great, as you are aware, gasoline cleans up oil very well. And no, it is fine with aluminum.
