2-series is crushing it, meanwhile the 5-series is flailing.

3/4/5 all down significantly. just goes to show how overpriced they are that people are transitioning to the 2er and the x models to get more value. The same comfort access and tech packages bmw charges too much for are included in base model accords, altimas, and camrys.. when is bmw going to get a clue that people dont want to spend $3k on the premium package just to get comfort access and a moonroof. or $6k on some ultimate package. Cant wait to see what the 1er sedan will do to 3series sales.

I agree, but BMW isn't the only offender. Audi/MB/Porsche are just as bad.

Audi includes more standard features in their a4 than the 328, but yes i agree.

Meh. That has always been true of luxury automobiles. If you're shopping for "value", you're not going to find what you're looking at at a German luxury car lot.

The question is, are the segments in which the 3/4/5 sell down overall, or is BMW the only one hurting?

Most of models saw gains, except for A4. Which most likely is due to brand new A4 about to be released. Otherwise Audi is doing really well and is gaining market share.

??? only if you live by percentages... remember... the sales of the new 2 series model are being compared to last year sales of the outgoing 1 series.

As it. a brand new model in the 2 series has sales are the LESS than the defunct and discontinued E84 X1 ... which means they are

BMW under pressure. Personally I think they have expanded into too many niches and it is starting to show. In Europe the revisions LCI to the 3 series are getting mixed reviews and Jaguar XE beating the 3 in side by side comparison. See an example below

Signs BMW wants to be a high volume, average build/dynamics manufacturer but still charge premium price. Will work for a bit but the customer in the end is too wise to fall for that

I am just not motivated to buy any new BMWs right now. If I want a performance car, I am more inclined to go with a used 911 or a Stingray. If I want a daily commuter, the new Mazda 6 with MT seems very appealing. I loved the e90 series, and the e60 looks better and better to me, but the F3# and the F10 just don't do it for me.

Consumer sentiment in Europe continued to brighten
and was reflected in a 8.2% increase in new registrations.
Slightly below the average for Europe as a whole, the
markets in:
Germany (+ 5.2 %)
United Kingdom(+ 7.0%)
France (+ 6.2%)
Spain (+ 22.0 %)
Italy (+14.9%)
Portugal (+ 32.8%)
Ireland (+ 25.4%)

By contrast, the downward trend in Japan continued,
with new registrations for the six-month period dropping
by 11.6%. An end to the trend is not yet in sight.

Registration figures in China continued to grow in the
first six months of 2015, this time by 9.1%. Compared
to the previous year, however, this represented a significant
slowdown in growth, particularly in the premium
segment.

Markets in the emerging economies performed inconsistently.
Registrations in Brazil, for instance, were
down by nearly a fifth (–19.8%) and in Russia by more
than a third (–36.6%).

China is a shitshow right now, with their market crash. All the luxury automakers are adjusting estimates downward.

The 3 series sales are a little bit down due to the close LCI release.
4 series will follow.
I think that X5 stole from 5 series sales.

Why does everyone look at one month and come to crazy conclusions about models? If you actually ran a business and made decisions based on one month you would be out of business quick. Prime example is 3 series which is flat for the year with all the new competition and 4 series is way the hell up. Just a month or two ago the X3 was in the shitter but this month was way up which shows you can't make any conclusions or decisions based on one to two months. The biggest problem BMW has right now is it's an SUV market right now and without strong SUV's you can't grow. The X1 is 6-7 years old so that will turn around quickly in 2016 and also the X3 was launched for the 2011 model year so it's pretty darn old. When 2 out of 3 of your big SUV sellers are 5-7 years old only bad things can happen.

You must not be familiar with how German luxury automakers set up their option lists.

On the year, 3 Series sales are largely the same as last year. It is surprising they were down in July.

When the 5-series was a driver's car it had a solid niche but now, I see no reasons to get a funfer over an X5. If you are stuck with a numb, heavy luxury boat just as well get the advantages of an SUV.
