ARGH registration price....F YOU UNCLE SAM!

$516 with license fee.....total ripoff, to drive on the same crappy roads with the same idiot 84 escorts that pay $20 to go 15 under the speed limit.

I would glady pay DOUBLE this price for a 'high speed autobahn style' lane that you cant use unless you keep it over 100...

What makes me even more mad is that I get ownership tax on a price a I didnt even pay for the car. I paid 4k UNDER the tax price, but they charge you KBB avg price or your price, whatever is higher....what a load of crap.

/End rant

I am completely empathetic on this one ... Mine was just slightly lower than yours. I think around $480 when it was all said and done! Welcome to Colorado! They also jacked up registration "fees" (a tax not called a tax) last year too. Thanks, Ritter.

IF I did bumper stickers, I might be tempted to go for this one.

At least the state income tax is lower here than it was in MO. Not sure how car taxes stack up.

geeze, that isn't bad... my first year was 1100, last year was 745 and I just paid my 2010 renewal and it was 575.

Comes with the territory of buying a nice car and not some POS like you mentioned above. You do get to deduct this on your taxes for next year if you itemize.

Yea but they get you on it somewhere Im sure.

Airshane...if I may ask, what did they get you on taxable value? I paid $36,500 for my car but get taxed on $40,328. What irks me is that I would probably be closer to $450ish or lower if they gave me what I paid for it plus another year of devaluation...it 'only' went down $84 from last year.

Forza....OUCH...$1100?? Thats insane!! Yes, tax write off but cmon thats just stupid crazy expensive. Besides, I need a job to have a write off, lol (working on it...anyone got a hookup this way for a job that has weekends off, pays 35k+ and decent benefits? or if I have to move to Denver and rent my place out, that pays better?....that went OT )

My first year was $1,800. I just renewed mine in November and it was $700. Man, they're bending me over and giving it to me. And I hardly drive my car too!

ummm...we have a sales tax of 6.5% ??? Ohio sucks for just about everything other than registering your car each year. So, I guess that's where the trade off is?

That sounds about what I have been paying. It sucks for sure...considering my E34 is less than $40 to renew.

You should be thankful you don't live in California...talking about highway robbery there in every aspect, from the sales tax, to property taxes, to DMV fees. Way to go Arnold? Hmm..

Yeah guys the fees suck big time but it is what it is. When I lived in Jefferson county the fee structure was based on the following:

http://co.jefferson.co.us/mv/mv_T120_R12.htm

I'm in Denver now but it isn't much different, that 2.1% the first year is just killer but it gradually drops off year over year:

1st = 2.1%
2nd = 1.5%
3rd = 1.2%
4th = .9%
5th-9th = .45%

The above calculated against 85% of the MSRP (yikes!!!)

Yup...and thats whats shitty. I wouldnt mind if it followed the KBB scale or whatever as your car devalues each year but to hit ya with the original purchase price each year is complete insanity. By my calculations, and keep in mind I cant count to 6, I got hit for ~1.3% of the price they gave me. Had it been for the 36.5k I got my car it would have been about $40 cheaper..sure not much but its still dumb how its structured.

Vincent...$1800???? Now THAT is a crime.

EDIT - Larimer county is eligible for online payment. A FEE FOR ONLINE applies...at my rate, an additional $12.83 in fees for an online payment. No thanks...Ill spend 43c and and a tree and mail it.

So not that I'm backing the tax, but KBB is too subjective to determine a tax. What KBB says is not fact, MSRP is and that is why they take MSRP, discount it and then drop the % year over year the first 5 years.

I don't like it but it's just the way it goes and everyone in colorado is in the same boat.

I'm bored tonight BTW, no one wanted to go out drinking because of the weather...

Another two years and the car I traded in would be over five years old and I'd not have to worry about it. Why did I get a BMW again? Oh yeah, they're a hell of a lot of fun to drive.

Yeah, I never knew that you also had to pay a city tax when you registered.

True, I just think they should adjust the 85% based on depreciation to be fair, not the original price over time.

The roads last night were terrible, at least up this way. My car hasnt left the garage, I made the roomate drive everywhere since Thursday, haha. But they were bad last night, just wet though today.

Sure, rub it in, Sid. We should make you pay for some of our registration fees!

I paid about $1000 for mine the first year. Stupid expensive, especially when they can't even be bothered to fix some of these sh*tastic minefields we call roads.
