Reset for brakes did not work. How do I fix it?
I went to Pep Boys and they changed my rotors and front and rear brakes. They also put new sensors on. They didn't reset the mileage until the next brake job (they didn't know how) and it still said 6000 miles for the front left and 17000 for the back which are obviously wrong.
I reset it myself via the instrument cluster and now it doesn't have a mileage and just says its due when I start the car. I took it back and they even replaced the sensors again with original bmw sensors but it hasn't gone away. The BMW dealer I took it to before they replaced the sensors again said its either the sensors (which they this time changed with original bmw ones) or possibly reprogramming the instrument cluster may fix the issue. Does anyone know exactly what is wrong and how it can be fixed? Has anyone had this issue? Car: 2007 BMW 328i convertible with 90K miles Last edited by F30guy; 10-23-2014 at 02:25 AM.. |

You can go to the dealer and have them reset it. Apparently sometimes you need a special computer to reprogram it. It was mentioned in another thread somewhere on here. Same situation.

I believe another member got it reset for no charge. But I also think he went in for a different service. Maybe the next time you go in for service, have them reset it rather than going in just for the reset. Perhaps it will sway their decision in charging you for it.

If you don't mind me asking, how much does BT cost? And is it just software or does it include the connector as well?

I bought mine used on here for about $150 several years ago (Enthusiast Kit). You buy the cable and download the software from Bavarian Technic for free. The cable plugs into your computer via USB. Great piece to have.

I got a reply.
Thank you for writing. The message you receive results when an error message (or no message) is returned to the BT tool upon attempting to reset a service item. If the associated control unit includes any fault codes or the required BMW maintenance is not complete (brake wear sensors not replaced or not replaced with OEM spec sensors, for example), the car will reject the reset request. I then asked about the error when trying to reset spark plugs. He replied, Please try using the beta-test release, version 1.9.3.8. Let us know if trouble persists. I did and no CBS even showed up on the screen. I informed him of this last evening so I am awaiting a reply to that. |

I've been wondering about sensor spec. I use a shorted sensor cable since I have a BBK, but I wonder if the DME is looking for a specific, non-zero (but still low) resistance value.
May have to buy a sensor to deal with this. Thanks for keeping us informed. |

I reset my CBS via the turn signal stalk. I will have to mess with BT Tool this weekend to get a log. Here was my latest reply.
Hi Jason, Thank you for the information. We are unable to change 1.8.6.6, but can work on 1.9.3.8. If you have an opportunity to provide us with a log from 1.9.3.8, it would be very helpful. In the meantime, in most cases the services can be reset via the BC stalk on the steering column or via iDrive if so equipped. You will find information regarding the BC stalk reset here: http://wiki.bavariantechnic.com/inde...S#Manual_Reset. If - before you reset the service items - you can re-install 1.9.3.8 to gather a communications log for us, we will send the brief instructions for doing so. |
