Car was off, sitting in the driveway for about 30 min when it started. I came out of my house to find my freshly washed BMW smoking out of the hood. Ran to open the hood when flames shot out. Decided that I should back off and called the fire department.

Investigator was say exactly what the source of the fire was but he believed that it came from the front right headlight. Said that there was a short in the light and caught the plastic on fire. Insurance paid for the damages.

Rolled a MINI Cooper S in 2002. I got a scratch or two on my hand. Wife, who was driving, suffered a slight concussion (she was fine).

We were going about 70 mph and rolled it on the freeway. More scary than anything else.

I'm new here...this happened back in April of 2010... I'd owned my first BMW ('06 325i) for about 90 days before I was rear-ended on my way to work. I was sitting at a full stop at the corner of Arlington Blvd and S. Irving St in Arlington when I was hit by a Lincoln Aviator and pushed into a GMC Envoy (who was pushed into the Nissan in front of him). I'm pretty sure the guy that hit me was on his blackberry and wasn't paying attention...there were no skidmarks on the pavement from him trying to stop. He ended up only being cited for following too closely (he was an ATF Agent and at one point I saw him joking around with the police who responded to the accidet). This was enough for his insurance to accept responsibility and pay for the accident though (he was driving to work in his personal vehicle). Estimate was over $14,000. His insurance declared it totaled and after fighting over the value with them I ended up ahead in the end after paying off the loan and used the money to get into my current '07 328i . I walked away from the accident and was only stiff for a few days.

Two car wreck. I rear ended another car. The driver of the other vehicle pulled out in front of me as I was doing about 60. I swerved to avoid the car but still clipped the rear.
I ended up with 45+ stitches in my face from hitting the steering wheel, since my airbag did not deploy.....

Car was totaled and now I drive a 335.

Sorry about your car, airbag and face. Didn't your seat belt lock up?

It did. Im not entirely sure if it was the steering wheel or some other part of the car, since I blacked out and woke up in the ambulance. But based off where the stitches were on my face and where the blood was on the interior, I assumed that it was the steering wheel.

I'm new to this forum, but I've seen my share of fatal accidents and have been hit on 2 occasions by distracted motorists and once by a drunk driver (which landed me in the hospital). These are some pretty gnarly wrecks on here, particularly that red M3, which I would wager was a fatal. If there's one thing that I hope we all take away from this, it's to understand that no one is invincible. No matter how safe a BMW may be, there are too many variables out there to predict what my occur in any given crash. Something as seemingly arbitrary as a fire hydrant could penetrate the side of your window and take your head off if your vehicle rolls over. With that said, I hope that everyone here is reminded that we are all responsible for safety out on the road. Seat belts and safe driving around other drivers and populated areas save lives. Remember, not everyone travels alone. So if you're driving like an idiot or under the influence, your actions can literally destroy the lives of several people, including your own. Here in New Jersey, I see plenty of careless drivers weaving through traffic, tail gating and making unsafe lane changes. It only takes one motorist to be distracted for one second for a crash to occur. And it doesn't take much to kill or seriously injure someone at highway speeds. Please be careful! Please be smart!

I'll get off my soap box now.

I was making a left hand turn at about 5mph and some idiot came flying behind me at 60mph and tried to pass me ON THE LEFT on a 2 lane road and I had my blinker on. Cars still getting fixed it happened 3 weeks ago. I had 3 passengers no one was hurt. The 1st thing my passenger said after it happened was "wow i did not even feel anything". 14,000 to fix and the guy who hit me insurance covered it.
