Custom Catless Manifold + BMS Downpipe Fix Install
Hi All,
I had these custom stainless manifolds made. I installed them last night with the down pipe fix. Car feels quicker and I noticed an insane increase in mpg. I'm in Canada so I was at 12.5l /100km. It dropped all the way down to 7.9l /100km at one point. .25% increase in fuel economy. Anyways, I ran a baseline dyno before I put them on last night with my stock exhaust system. Only addition is a euro air box. I am going to go back and dyno in a week or so. Only problem, is I got a CEL today. I put the DP fix setting on 5. Not sure how I need to adjust it and what it will take to clear it but I don't know which exact code it is. Anyways. Here are the pipes I installed. I'll keep everyone updated on the dyno plus which setting clears my CEL. if anyone has any suggestions let me know. Last edited by mapleridge; 12-05-2012 at 11:26 PM.. |

Did you use e90 donor manifold or some other n52?
Looks very well made mod

Will do. I have the lower powered 2.5l motor. I make 175bhp stock and I dyno'd in pretty much right there last night. I have another session set up as soon as I can get free. Probably next week. I will share all the results.

You want a swivel joint on your socket at times and some deep sockets. You will need a small extensions as well. Some o2 sensors you can unscrew while others it is best to just unplug. If you are using a bms downpipe fix, read the instructions carefully on where they suggest the setting to be. You can read it wrong and set it too low. You will get a CEL like I did. I have a pic from underneath but you can't see too much. |

They are custom manufactured. I don't have the final costs yet as the shop still didn't send me the full bill. |

I thought you meant the actual valve cover, not the engine trim cover...lol yeah, that will be removed.

Make sure you have gaskets for the lower flanges or remove the exhaust if you want to reuse them. They will get banged up if you try to remove the manifold with the exhaust on. How are you going to bolt up with the MMW headers? |

x-pipe 6" past headers mandrel bends where secondary cats would be magnaflow 5x8 dual in/out tru-x muffler where resonator is now dual exit the rest of the way back. Similar to what an e36 m3 exhaust looks like except muffler further up the line.

You should dyno before doing all the exhaust mods. My last exhaust with cat delete showed about 2hpgains. Wasn't worth the money. Stock system is quite good. I think removing the restrictions in the cats is all that is needed for power and tq.

I have the downpipe fix. I read the instructions wrong and set it too low. It needs to be turned up. Terry @ bms told me I need to check the code and adjust accordingly. Then I have to reset the light and adaptations. Local BMW meet on thursday someone will bring an OBDII scanner to clear the code. I have to figure out the adaptation reset with INPA. After the adjustment I hope all will be well.

oh... well i can probably do that no problem then.
EDIT: sorry, i feel retarded for my lack of attention to detail. My INPA can read and clear codes... i haven't gotten a LOT of experience with reading the codes, but i'm sure it won't be too difficult. Last edited by N0OS3; 11-21-2012 at 01:29 PM.. |

how loud is the solution compared to stock Manifold?
regarding my Q about the donor manifold. Where did the top portion that connects to the Engine come from? They dont look like the copper colored OEM stainless that i've seen before.

With OEM exhaust there is zero discernable increase in noise with these headers alone. Personally. This is how I like it. Add a res delete or muffler delete and its a whole new can of worms. |
