I started to autocross my car last year and had a great time. I'm going back this year and was wondering what would be recommended for my jb4 map. Last year I just had a jb4 and DCI for my mods and ran map 2 with a race gas mixture of about 97 octane. I did pretty well and had a great time.

Since then I've added the VRSF 7in intercooler and downpipes. Any thoughts on which map I should run now? I know I don't really need more power for autocross, but it sure is fun. I can run up to full 100 octane if needed. Thanks!

I typically drive around in map 1, but tried map 2 at the track this passing weekend after I mixed some E85. Even with LSD, I have to really have to watch out for oversteering with the crappy street tires that I have. I see you have a xi, so things might be better (understeering instead?) than my rwd coupe. But start from map 1 or 0, especially if it is your first time at autoX.

Our car doesn't really benefit from excessive amount of power on autox, proper tires and suspension setup can shave off much more time than 400+ hp on the soft stock suspension.

XI did understeer fairly significantly in tighter corners. No real problems with power oversteer. In some corners I found I could provoke a 4 wheel drift which did help corner exit speed quite a bit as it kept the turbos on the boil. This was much easier to do on map 2 than when I tried map 0 (obviously).

I don't have a 335i, but I used to auto x (successfully) a wrx wagon, I ran the least laggy map for the highest about of throttle control.

What is your background with autocross? It sounds like you are having a blast, so that's all that really maters.

For the series I'm participating in, it doesn't matter how much I increase boost (any tune that increases boost gets the same number of points).

My background with autocross is still pretty limited, and you're right...I'm having a blast. I've been to 3 events, one of which was an introduction to autocross (other two competitive). Last time I was competitive with the e9x M3s that were there.

I'm not planning on turning my car into an all out autocross car, just a good daily driver that can also autocross competently. Thus far I've only done power mods, but plan to do some upgrades to the suspension next.

Suspension mods will be far more rewarding than power mods once you get a bit into tracking. For me, the JB4 was far too unlinear in throttle response (e.g. on/off switch) on the track.
