Pics of custom enclosure setups in trunk?

Not many peeps these days like the bump in the trunk, but i do... I am wanting to have a custom box build in the trunk but wanted to see some ideas of how others have done it to get it to load to the front of the car. I dont mind having to leave a seat down or the ski hole open to get maximum bass. I will probably do a single Fosgate 15".. Any pics??

Have you considered 2 12" subs? 2 12's have more cone area than 1 15.

I have 2 alpine swr 12d4's in a prefabbed box facing the cabin and I usually just keep the seats down, or I open up ski pass and it's a perfect opening for the ports. I am going to make a front baffle that will completely seal the cabin off from the trunk and flush mount the subs. Any box that is 36" wide x 14" high will fit snugly in that opening. So far I haven't found any rattles and it looks clean.

I'd take a picture but I don't have my car atm.

My previous setup was a 15" fi btl in a 7 cu foot box facing the cabin with the port on the drivers side. But that took up the entire trunk and it was a little too much weight.

Mother of God!

I wish I still had pics of the set up in my old 2002 Cavalier. I pulled the back seats completely out of the car and had a box with 2 15's facing forward in it's place. Ported up towards the rear window.

The 18's only take up 10" from the back of the seat. Id say the amps take up more room. After its all covered and grilled, i'll still have a usable trunk. No rattles and just sounds clean.

^ Interesting setup, it looks like you are using the trunk space as the enclosure? I can't imagine that setup hitting as hard as the subs would in say a ported or folded horn enclosure right?

I know you are saving your trunk room but i just dont see how that can sound all that good. Esp with how slow 18's are. How you like the new ones compared to the 15's? Ever measured DB? Anybody else have setup's they would like to share?

Also, what brand are those 18's? They look like an old concert speaker.

Larger subs are not "slower", that is a myth!

Obviously you have never heard an Infinite Baffle set-up.

IB systems sound amazing. You are right, they are not as loud as a ported or folded horn system but they do sound much better. If you think that a 18 is slow, you've never heard a well setup 18" system. Theses are Aura 18s. They are 98db efficient, play from 15-800+hz and have 1.5" linear travel. Im giving them a true 1400 watts and they just flip me off and ask for more. I was hitting a full spectrum 146db with the 15's and the 18s are easily as loud but with much more slam and it's not even tuned yet.

I hope you are joking here... Go rock out with some Metallica on some 18" subs and tell me how clean it sounds.

146db is no joke esp for a non ported setup! Nice work.. I am gonna ask my builder what he thinks of your setup for my car. I like the way it looks and saves space as well.

If a larger sub played "slower" it would be playing a different frequency. The frequency is controlled by the amp which alternates the current at the desired frequency.

I, too, have made false statements before, so I'll go easy on you!

Fact is that an 18" driver plays at the same "speed" as a 10" driver. Look it up if you want. It is also a fact that larger cone area equals lower distortion. Distortion is what makes a subwoofer sound un-"clean", so actually the opposite from what you say is true - larger subwoofers actually play "cleaner" than small ones (at the same volume level).

So when TMR rocks out to Enter Sandman, the cones of those woofers don't have to move very much to produce the desired SPL. However, if he replaced his subs with a single 10 for example, the cone on that sub would be flapping around like crazy and putting out a lot of distortion, making it sound muddy.

Like I said its a myth (I used to believe it too at some point, a long long time ago! )

Come down to calli, i garantee you that my 18's are faster than any pair of 10's you have heard. My 18's have a crazy neo motor, paper cone and slap the shit out of you. I love em!!!! not to mention my ported 5x7 midbass do a great job at keeping up with the rest of the system.

Infinite baffle set ups sound amazing if installed properly. It's critical to seal off the trunk from the cabin. The majority of the work done by Don and I (6spdcoupe) at unexpected creations are infinite baffle. The newest creations are using Focal k2 power subs and sound incredible. We did Don's E55 with 2 in the rear deck and an Acura TL behind the back seat. Both setups pound your face in and cause blurry vision. Like most setups, though, quality of installation is the key no matter what equipment you use. Personally, I use a Dynaudio Esotar 1200 mounted IB in my e93 and it goes deep and loud.
