Manual BMW Perf Shift Knob on Automatic? Or NOt

I love the BMW Perf, and i love the manual transmission looking shift knob. sadly, my car is automatic.... i've been trying to look for cool E90 3 series auto knobs but nothing comes even close to bmw perf ones imo (unless you guys got some other ideas/brands please let me know!!!!!!)

the interesting thing is i found on the net here : http://www.101modifiedcars.com/modif...-gear-knob.jpg

how is this car using that knob in an automatic? without that lever thing you won't even be able to go pass "Park".

....verrryyy interested to know how manual transmissoin knobs will work in automatic (without that lever)...

THANKS!

it works. lever lock is disabled when you pull the old knob out. Press the brake pedal and the lever will move. I got a e46 m3 SMG knob on mine.

not specifically what you're asking for, but here's a thread on using momo shift knobs on our automatic cars (so yes, it can be done): http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=269370

here's my setup. i like that it's not so tall any longer and i like the feel and look of the round knob. excuse the iphone pics.

The manual shift base looks much better then the auto and it snaps right in. Almost any knob will fit on there as well.

here are some pics of mine. bmw performance manual shift knob on an AT.

http://www.e90post.com/forums/showpo...34&postcount=2

it will fit. when you remove your the auto shifter, the lever lock is disabled. you will still be able to shift out of P as long as you have your foot on the brake, like before. for the performance knob to fit you need to line the inside with velcro or something to make the opening smaller and allow it to fit snugly on the AT.

read through my thread for more (specifically, post 58)

Thanks guys.! So it works perfectly fine? Doesn't cause any warning lights or functionality issues (steptronic)?

Is there a DIY out there on this?

Chris thanks for info. Do uhave a pic of how it looks inside or how the Velcro is stuck on? What happens if the Velcro are not used? Is it really lose?

I wish UUC would make a version of their RK Shadow for us with AT. Sickest of them all IMO.

replacing the stock shift knob with the performance one will not cause any errors. DIY is easy.. leave the car in P, turn the car off, and pull the knob up. simply slide the performance knob on and you're set. I don't have a picture of the inside... basically you want to stick a strip of velcro vertically. if the velcro is not used, the knob is very loose.

not dangerous at all, as you still need to depress the brake to get out of P. however, you have to be careful not to go from D to R while you're driving.

ah okay, then there shouldn't be any difference with installing the performance knob. sounds like you're good to go!

Sorry, but I think that's worse than putting M badges all over your car. Nothing like advertising that you wish you had a MT or even worse, you don't know how to drive an MT and you're just pretending. I know, I know - it's just my opinion. If you like it, that's all that matters...

I say do whatever makes you happy. The manual knob does look better, imo.

I think the brake provides a lock, so you can't go from D to R... you can go from D to N without the button, but as I recall you need the button (or the brake) to get from N to R... someone care to correct me if I'm wrong?
