2007-2011 3-Series coupes and convertibles manufactured March 2007 through July 2011

What about the earlier 3 series 2007 builds in late 2006? Maybe they got the date range wrong

Just called the dealer for some other warrenty work and they said my cars part of the recall. They told me they need it all day, must be more then just replacing the ends or splicing into it if they need it all day. But then again they are the dealers and might just be idiots.

I called the dealer here and although they are aware of the recall, they have not received anything official from BMW for them to follow through on (this is in Canada)... hopefully before too long.

Of course it's all day. They will have you drop it off with 20 other cars in the morning, start on yours at 2:00pm so you can pick it up at 4 or 5.

No data at my dealer yet.
My car was in yesterday for unrelated service.

I brought mine in for the recall but they didn't have the parts yet. I was told to give it 2 weeks so they do have the parts. The service manager had to have his cable replaced last year so he knew exactly what was going on.
By the way this is an expensive couple of parts (2 cables) that run from the battery to the glove box which is a big PITA...

I had this fixed at indy show and paid 300, sucks, no way to recover that I am sure. Probably a 1000 fix at BMW if outside the recall. BTW I noticed the issue when I had an airbag light go off - that may be something to look for. Indy shop said cable had high resistance and replaced it. Said that BMW dealers have these cables in high stock because they are a common failure item

I don't think BMW is authorized to begin this work yet according to my service manager when I discussed this with him. He said he saw the information outside of BMW and they have not been given sufficient parts to begin to deal with the recall. I was told when they have recalls that happens pretty often. I do agree with him because on the HPFP effort I knew about it months before the letter from BMW.
Just because they had the parts (I don't know if they did or not was told they did not) doesn't mean they can start the recall effort until BMW NA gives them the go signal...
All I know...

I just did this repair just prior to the recall....$220 for the parts, tax and shipping. What remains to be determined is if the recall parts will be any different than what is currently offered. It is such a common issue that most dealers already stock the cable(1) and the fuse/relay box(1). The only time consuming aspect is routing the cable the length of the vehicle.

cheers

For the people that have already had this done: wouldn't you think you will still have to have this done again under the recall? If the cable itself has been modified to correct the fault, I would assume that the work that you had done previously only replaced the failed part with a new part that is of the same faulty design and is likely to fail in the future.

I had an Acura TL that had a power steering leak that nearly caused a fire. It was fixed once, but several months later Acura issued a recall and I had to have it done again with the new modified parts.

Did they refund you any money?

Bought my first BMW six weeks ago. 2010 328i......Driving home from breakfast this morning and my dash lit up like a xmas tree.....speedometer went to zero...dash went dead. Called and had it towed. I sure hope this is the result of the recall. I am disheartened only owning a BMW for six weeks and I am experiencing issues already.
Hopefully this will be the last.....

Perhaps this is a strange coincidence but my 2010 128i, which worked perfectly on Friday 3/1, wouldn't start this morning 3/4. The key fob didn't work so I used the actual key to get in the car. After a failed attempt to start the car I heard a strange sound coming from the glove box and then the hazard button started flickering. I called up BMW Fairfax and having the car towed in to get looked at. No word yet from BMW USA regarding my car and the recall. So I'm hoping they take appropriate action as to avoid another trip to the service center.

***Turns out that with my car being parked for two days + cold temps= increased battery drainage. I just finished driving around for 20 minutes to get the charge back up to par. I'll see what fortune the morning brings.

Did the car acually stop running? Why did you get it towed?

In for Oil change and service on Mar 4.

The SR told me about a battery cable recall. I assume it is this one and it is done. (Canada)

I brought in the car this week and asked them to do the battery recall along with replacing the o2 sensor that keeps setting off SES light with code P0050.

So on the invoice, it said battery recall work to be performed, then it mentioned they took the seats out and the carpeting to find out itsa different type than the recall specified. Said its not compatible with the recall bulletin and reassembled it back in.

Mine is a 12/06 build, the recall is for 3/07 and on.
