Engine fault reduced power

Hi all,

This afternoon I was driving home from work when suddenly this warning light came on "Engine fault reduced power". I got home, turned the car off, had a quick look underneath and around the car and the engine bay. Turned the car back on and the warning message was gone, even drove it around the street and the car seemed fine.

This is my daily, is it safe to drive it around (50kms per day) for the next 3 days until i have time to bring it to a BMW dealership?

Any advise on what it could?

It's a 2007 BMW e92 335i (Step) with 56,000kms.

1 or more plug(s) and/or coil(s). Common problem, easy fix.
Very cheap from stu or advan or if you can bear to wait a couple weeks get them online from ecs.com or turnermotorsports.com

So are you running a tune? I had a check engine light illuminated for a few days, I cleared it with the procede and everything is back to normal (I had a fmic and ar dp's installed at xmas and also have fresh plugs so unsure what caused it)

As dr335i stated it could be plugs coils or even fuel pump (plus a myriad of other issues- I will try and find the list for you)

I hope it's just the plugs.

Car is stock besides the meisterschaft muffler that was installed a few weeks ago.

Could have been your O2 sensors from the DPs, common thing.

You should hook up your proceed to a laptop and read the code? I do that on the JB4.

No sound clips at the moment, will try and get some on the weekend.

Some good news, this morning the car started up fine with no warnings and drove to work with no problems (knock on wood).

There are so many faults that could cause this warning to come up.
There are some common cause, but I don't think anyone can correctly diagnose it without checking the fault by a experienced BMW mechanic.

It could have been a lose sensor or something minor since it went off after you cycled the power and ignition. For peace of mind, when you do pass a BMW Dealership, have them scan for errors and they can advise you from there.

Have you driven it hard since without errors? Or have you noticed a loss of power?

Mine was doing the same thing.. Turned out to be a vacuum leak. Car was only boosting to 3psi and when getting stuck into it, I'd get a P30FF error (read by COBB) and a half engine light. Restarting the car cleared it - until I boosted hard again..

A quick test to see if its that - Pull the vacuum plug off near your airbox (careful) after a drive.. If there's no Pffft of air - you have a vacuum leak. If this is the case, your wastegates will probably be rattling louder too. To see if the leak is on the passenger side (this may sound weird) blow into the pipe that was plugged and you'll hear air rushing out..

Replaced hoses: Boost & power is back, Wastegates no longer rattle, no engine fault codes. Everyone around 50k's or more should check theirs.

i had the same fault on sunday,i limped over to the mechaNICS and left the car at the door unlocked overnight

this is not new to my local ultra tune as he rang 730am monday mornig and said whats wrong now !!!

i had ruduced power and shuddering when idle, he checked the codes and it said 2 coils had failed, so he replaced the four and new spark plugs as they were due anyway and all perfect fixed ,,,no more engine light

Hi there, new to the forum.

I am looking at a 325i to purchase from a dealer, and when I took it for a test drive, I had the check engine light. The mechanics have been looking at it for a couple of days, and told me today that they found some water in the coils.

The car had been for a detail just prior to me driving it , and had noticeable lack of power at low rpm. Apparently it's fixed now and I'll be taking it for another test drive this evening to confirm.

an update to mine... they initially cleaned the coils and put everything back together, engine light went away. After a drive the light came back on and they postponed my test drive to today.
This time they replaced one faulty coil and all the sparks. I drove it this evening, power was good and no lights.

BMW wanted $260+ to check the car for errors so I will try the above link first.

take your car back to active man, Jin will work it out.... when i had check engine, that was due to mis-fires, when it went into limp mode that was the Vanos....
