Exclamation Injector Problem?? Codes Inside - Please Take A Look

Hi All,

Drove the car fine to work today. Turn it on to go home in the evening and it was driving like my dads 1970's diesel mercedes. I roughed it home through traffic. I just ran the codes and got the following:

2D06,1,Air-mass system
2A82,8,VANOS intake
2A98,1,Crankshaft-inlet camshaft, correlation
29CF,2,Combustion misfires, cylinder 3
29D9,2,Misfire at low tank fill level

Anyways, would like to get it up and running this weekend. I'd appreciate your feedback.

These codes are most likely from a bad ignition coil. Bad fuel injectors on the N52 are not common at all. I had the same 2 codes when my #1 coil died.

for the first code, I'd try removing and cleaning your MAF sensor, and see if that helps.

the 2nd and 3rd codes are more serious though. could be that one triggers the other, but I don't know. search for a DIY on cleaning out the Vanos solenoids.

I switched the coil from cylinder 3 to 1 and I got a misfire in both cylinders. I am thinking it is a bad coil and injector in cylinder 3.

I will clean the MAF. I was just going to change the intake vanos solenoid. What do you think?

around 60K miles.

It is worth trying to clean and swap the solenoids(same part number for intake and exhaust) first to see if that makes a change. Just spray some maf cleaner and blow it dry with a compressed air nozzle.

I took it into the dealer because I thought it was the coil and injector from the little tests I ran. They replaced the coil under CPO and it is back to normal. I bought the gaskets for the solenoids and I will pull those out and clean them just as a precaution.

It is worth doing. A clogged solenoid will impact performance as it is what controls the variable timing on the intake and exhaust camshafts. Plus it is quite possibly the easiest DIY around
