Should I Leave Japan
OK, news in Japan is slightly calmer, but International news reports are quite scary. What would you do if you were me?

Once I was in Beirut, and CNN reported "major clashes and to evacuate the area" near where I lived.. I took a drive to the reported area and I saw children playing in the streets :/ over-reacting.. you are the best person to judge it.. vacations don't hurt though

Where I am, things are pretty calm. I'm in Mie-ken, kind of far from Fukushima-ken. But, people are talking about earthquakes and the nuclear situation quite a bit. However, i went to dinner tonight with some friends, and business at the restaurant seemed normal as usual. One of my friend's works at the International Center, and said some foreigners have been leaving.
The weather is the only thing that's alarming at all to me, but odd weather occurances do happen on their own. It's nearly April, and a few days ago it was warming up (it's been cold here). This morning was colder than it has been (but not THAT cold), and last night was super windy. About 11am though (it wasn't all that cold), it started snowing! It snowed on and off all day, and then snowed really hard about 6pm, and stopped again. Well, I think I can handle earthquakes, even a tsunami with warning; but the thought of nuclear radiation is what alarms me.

Even if a meltdown occurs you still need a propellant to spread it. There was some spreading of a small amount of nuclear material but that was due to them letting some steam out of the reactor so that it wouldnt blow due to pressure. That's my understanding at least. So there shouldn't really be any radiation issues, besides maybe the occasional low level spreading.

Why not?
All important decisions of one's life should be left up to OT If you're far, you may be over reacting if you're close, than GTFO

LOL at the irony of the wording of the second poll choice
But in all seriousness, I'd get out. The radiation is what scares me because no lie, my two greatest fears are cancer and that my children will be born with a serious birth defect/retardation. |

Judging by where you are, I'd say you're probably safe. If I was in your situation I'd be keeping a very close eye on things and be prepared to GTFO if you need to. Good luck, buddy.

Not to panic and leave now, but at least be prepared.
Pack a suitcase and bag of clothing, and essential items such as passport, birth cert, bank stuff...etc.... Just to be ready in case shit hits the fan...but from where you locates, it is safe for now.

OP, I wouldn't let the OT influence a decision as important as this. You should do your best to get local advice.

I just saw where Mei-ken prefecture was and your are fairly close to Osaka/Kyoto. I think you should be fine.... or at least much better off than the people in Tokyo.
As someone said before, have at the very least one luggage bag packed and ready just in case you needed to get out asap. I had a trip planned to Japan at the beginning of May...... was suppose to go to Tokyo and Aomori..... Because of every that has happened, my friends and I may skip it all together. We even thought of heading south west towards Osaka or places even further west but I don't know....... Megaman, how are things fairing on the west side of Japan right now??? |
