Title pretty much says it all.
Shiv, does it seems possible to re-write the memory? |

No, it is a diagnostic tool, not reprogramming software at this point. Yes, the Pro version allows you to clone modules, But it doesn't include a method to change the files at this time.
But that doesn't men it couldn't be available down the road. |

If we can clone - what will stop us from modifying the clone except checksums?
Very interesting development right now! |

I have first hand experience of this on N54. There are some swedish guys that had the read/write thing and checksum up and running. Problem: they did not fully understand the data and how all parameters was linked to each other. As an example they fialed to remove the infamous lag on 29.2+. Furthermore I think the speed limit was in 4 different parts of the software.
I ended up going back to Procede, realizing that a flash will require a lot from the tuner. This is very complicated to say at least. Attached is a picture of the software during modification : |

but there are plenty of options for the tuners to do that:
WinOLS http://www.evc.de/en/product/ols/checksum.asp ByteShooter http://www.byteshooter.at/ CMD Tech http://www.cmdtec.it/index.asp DIMSport www.dimsport.com Hmmm, Sharkedit just put some new pictures on their website: http://www.bonnevillemotorwerks.com/sharkedt/OBDv2.jpg |

Noone is going to make it that easy. Think about the performance software BMW is releasing soon. If someone could simple run stock/tuned compares and do it themselves, why would anyone buy it from BMW? Not gonna happen. BMW and tuners alike have intellectual property to protect.

my friend has software for his s4 that gives him complete control over the ecu.He just copied my brothers giac tune and my friends k04 stage 3 awe tune. The software is out there to do it.
We were messing around with my cousins s4 last night and were adding more timing advance and upped the boost 2psi more. The freaking car was a monster. the video of the s4 racing a 335 was posted not to long ago.Ari if you see this dont race my cousin, they have tunned his car to smoke yours now,he will run way more boost and run the timing to the max just to berat you lol.The kid has special software that will let him tear apart people ecus and copy/tune them to what ever he wants. This is the reason shark edit kinda disspared,it would make everyones tunes avail to who ever wanted them. This kid has 4 tuners tunes for s4s that he can easily blast on to any ecu. IM actually curious if they will put something out for bmws. |

You are adding boost and advancing the timing?...
this seems to me why companies like bmw fear tuners... Quote:

I was just under the impression that adding boost, and adding timing, was a sure fire way to induce knock. Usually upping boost comes with the need to retard timing, unless you are running a much higher octane fuel
but then again, maybe you were, and then thats sweet
