Just checked my order status online, noticed they ordered the wrong filter for me. Good thing the order was not shipped out yet, the correct filter is $47.99.

Lesson learned, give them part number (K&N E-2022), don't assume they know the correct part to go with the Euro box.

Curious about doing this soon, I have muffler delete.. how would this combo go? I wonder if it would be too loud. I dont really care, I want it to maintain a solid sound like the BMW Perf vids on their website, either way I'm going to get this. Just wanted to hear what people have to say about the exhaust sound change, if any.

Choice to do this was really a 'no brainer' as I simply swapped my entire factory airbox with entire Euro Airbox from another member (he needed the back half of my airbox to mate up with the GM Performance Airbox he had just purchased) so we each only paid shipping.

I don't really expect any realizable 'seat of the pants' performance gains, but I'm sure the car will breathe better now that the restrictive charcoal filter is gone (without having to do any surgery/cutting) and I am using the K&N E2022 round replacement filter in place of the factory paper version.

I did notice an increase in sound - in a good way!

Best advantage is that now to access filter, all I have to do is remove lid instead of disconnecting the entire airbox and then disassembling it to get to the filter.

Euro Airbox was a direct bolt-in on my 328 with absolutely no problems.

Here is a pic:

Where did you get the carbon fiber engine cover(#4)? I have a 328i (E92) and can't seem to find one.

This is the new intake connector. It has wider opening to the airbox. That's why the lid is new.
Is the carbon fiber on the OE BMW Performance snorkel simply a cover over a plastic snorkel or is the whole snorkel made of carbon fiber?

I thinking about doing exactly what you did, get the Euro box and cheap China snorkel. Simply because the Euro spec Performance Intake is unavailable, plus the WAY cheaper cost helps. Although what part of the lid is missing?

You can use K&N filter part No. E-2022 (same as BMW performance)
sorry for bumping an old topic, but you trying the say the k&n conical filter is the same one that comes with the bmw performance air intake?

Thanks..

P.S- i m talking about euro version e90.

Yes the K&N filter is the same.

I replaced the K&N with Pipercross:

Not correct for US spec cars. The BMW performance intake re-uses half of the stock airbox. The filter is the same shape as the stock paper filter except the performance intake kit comes with a K&N oiled filter instead of a dry paper one. The charcoal filter is still used, so if you don't want it, you must cut it out.

Beside K&N filter the BMW Performance intake has larger air intake. The performance gain is questionable. I don’t think it’s much.

The bmw performance intake seems to have some extra pipe/inlet going towards the windscreen area, has anyone noticed it on the airbox cover?

Thanks..

looking at intakes for n52 - I like the Euro Spec but is it comparable to AFE intakes?

I'll be upgrading IM with 3 stage and flashing with bimmertech fwiw

what's everyone using?

thanks!

I haven't had personal experience with the AFE intakes, but I just got the Eurobox w/ K&N cone filter. I'm coming from the stock box with an AFE dry filter & charcoal delete. Honestly I can't really tell much difference performance wise, it sounds marginally louder (barely) with the cover on. I ran it with the cover off for fun and it was LOUD, almost too loud and drone'y around 3k RPM and when you hit 5K+ it sounded like it was screaming.. not a good kind of loud volume, it's like a cheap ricer sound.. didn't like it so I put the cover back on.

Err'one here pretty much agrees that you can't go wrong with the OEM box (charcoal filter removed), OEM Eurobox (euro stock intake), or aFe sealed unit (stage 2 si). If you stay OEM, grab a silicone intake elbow from Rev Motoring, get a filter of your choice, and call it a day.

The BMW Performance Intakes (one for US intake, one for EURO intake) are good, as well, but very pricey! If you do go with the US BMW PI, you'll still need/want to remove the charcoal filter and get a silicone intake elbow.

Great summary and wrap-up to a frequently asked question.

The intake above, plus an auxiliary snorkel CAI similar to the E9X and E46 M3 designs, measured over 16 whp gain on the dyno.

A closed intake system that sources O2 from outside the hot engine bay (like the PI and AFE boxes) make more power by decreasing IATs. The aux CAI makes more power by increasing O2 and further contributing to lower IATs, and the ECU attempts to maintain target AFR.

This isn't debatable:
