Logic 7 with aftermarket double DIN possible?

I ordered a double din bezel from Mybimmer.net and now i am starting to feel like i will not be able to install the double din touchscreen because of logic 7. I tried searching and reading...and reading and i keep seing mixed answers and no tutorials. If it is possible to install the aftermarket headunit please can someone point me to a tutorial or and post for an example. I dont want to tear the car apart i just want a clean upgrade with out any major modifications. I am sorry if i sound redundant but i honestly looked on forums for 2 days and i havent found my answer.

I have a 07 335, no i-drive but i do have L7.

Many thanks

Wouldn't you lose a lot of options like drive statistics, and controls on the wheel?

You can install it, but you will not be able to use the OEM amp and all the OEM chimes and Bluetooth audio will be lost. You will need to either add new wires to the speakers in the doors or to the trunk to connect to all the speakers there. And you will need to add at least one 4-channel, 2 ohms stable aftermarket amp -if your aftermarket HU internal power can drive 2 ohms loads, if not you will need two 4-channel amps- to drive most of the OEM speakers.

It is not that simple.

I believe there are adapters for the wheel functionality, but to be honest i do not really mind losing those functions.

I really do not think that changing the head unit is a good idea. The BMW head unit is pretty good and it is too expensive and troublesome to change it. Idrive is overrated too. The best thing to do is to just a get a portable navigation system and a portable DVD player if you really need these things.

A Double DIN will require the transfer of the climate control panel to the armrest with a new custom extended harness to clear space for the HU... that's easy a $1000 job alone -if the shop has done this before- as it is wire by wire and with a custom faceplate/fabrication.

Then you will need to install one or two 4-channel amps -and any additional modules of the HU, as in Bluetooth, Sirius and HD radio, steering wheel controls- in the cabin and in the trunk. Add some $1000 in labor and another $1000 in amps and modules if you go with low price amps.

That's on top of the cost of the HU.

That's pretty much a nice downpayment for a 2009 335i with iDrive without Logic7. Much better than any current double-DIN aftermarket unit and much better and cheaper to upgrade the OEM audio components, IMO.

No dealer most probably will do it at all, as it is not an OEM retrofit... you will be very lucky in finding a dealer with an enthusiastic and extremely knowledgeable tech that will do it for you. That would cost you some $5000+ (new parts and labor) easy, though.

However, there is always the DIY: http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=131416

You can retain the chimes and steering wheel buttons with an adapter.

Are those adapters for the Parking sensors only? I'm talking about the door and seatbelt/fault chimes...

I don't know what kind of BMW you are driving, but BMW "Professional" head-"unit" is the worst piece of audio hardware i have EVER seen, and i've seen alot, working as a stereo installer for quiet some time...

Just make sure to leave the name of your shop somewhere here... that's one shop that I don't want to go.

Honestly the one problem I have noticed with it is that is sometimes slow and that it cannot store a lot of data (limits to 255 artists from Ipod for example). I do not think it is worth losing the BMW aesthetics, resale value, and wheel controls just to get a slightly better head unit. I do not think the video screen is that big of a necessity in a sports car honestly.

You can go single din in dash navi dvd player. I have an eclipse but you lose sos option. There is an adapter for the steering wheel. Honestly if you have a good installer it shouldnt be a problem. People always make it bigger then it is supposed to be.

But once you go through all that trouble, you have a spent an excessive amount of money. I do not think it is worth it.

Plus I do not see why you would want to block the AC vents with the screen too.

There is SOMEONE on e90post that has their AC control retrofitted where the ashtray is and the radio portion in the glovebox. "Ironic" maybe? I wish I could remember. He had by far the craziest e9x interior I'd ever seen.

Edit: It wasn't "ironic" but I'll remember who it was eventually.
