70% manual
25% D 5% DS DS is great for having fun.. but I like being in control. I use the paddles in both D and manual mode. In manual mode, I use them on canyon-type roads with many curves, and in regular Drive, I use them when I feel like the transmission is in the wrong gear (for example, going up the 1.5 mile hill to my house, the car stays in 5th -- and causes me to SPEED --so I upshift) Last edited by username604; 02-04-2013 at 02:15 AM.. |

Routinely, D.
DS for moments when D is unable to cope with necessary manoeuvers, like morons in the fast lane, ricers who need a lesson, or just complicated multi-lane merges. |

335s have an oil temp gauge instead of a water temp gauge. Much better indication of the engine's operating temp.

Drive when I'm just trying to get down the road, and I stick it in DS when I want to have a little fun, but I don't like how long it holds onto gears when you're not accelerating with a lot of throttle input so I use whatever mode lets you select the shift points yourself. Not sure what its called

95% D
4% DS 1% manual mode. If I wanted to shift my own gears all the time I would have bought a manual 335. But got sick of driving manuals over the years.

Needless to say, there was some interesting driving going on. It's all back to normal now though. I get 280-300 like you, at which point I usually have like less than 40 miles remaining and the gas light comes on.

D... Mainly because I do a lot of city driving and it's not worth wasting the extra gas when I'm not going anywhere quickly in the first place. However, I will throw into DS when I want to do some spirited driving.

I use DS mode most of the time because my commute from home to work to home is mostly freeway. I don't know how but I found it more efficient to use DS on freeways. Using D will only get me 200 miles per tank while DS gets me 250 miles per tank.

D most of the time
DS could be fun on empty roads but is overkill around town. I do pay for my own gas and other expense you know… Manual mode almost never because I don't pretend to shift a slush box. Ultimately it's the computer who decides the shifting. |

I use M mode, just about always, regardless of whether I want to drive spiritedly, or casually.
I have a DCT tho, so M mode is probably more efficient for the 335is than for the other 3 series.

No offense to other 328 drivers, I just don't like this guys comment. Sounds like a grump and I'm glad you pay for your own gas now, growing up!
