I say go for it, that is a great price. I paid 24k for my 08 with 39k miles on it (a year ago) and had to do a fair amount of maintenance before having it tuned anyway.

How do you know if the visits it was lemoned on were to replace turbos, injectors, DME, and HPFP? Maybe the maintenance was religious and maybe it wasn't. So it could be a car with up-to-date maintenance, 40k turbos, 40k injectors, 40k DME, and a 40k HPFP. Would you rather have that than a 335i with 85k on all those components with neglected maintenance? We don't know the maintenance history. We don't know why it was lemoned. Both of these may be available via the DCS + other dealer records. " it probably requires some $ignificant work" is not "100% accurate". You are speculating and calling it fact. I'm done arguing, I think the OP can see what he needs to see.

I'd be hesitant to buy anything with that many miles on the odometer. Luxury or not. That's just me though.

"I haven't been able to find that the turbos have been replaced, or that the other common N54 problems have been addressed, at least according to the carfax."
OP--call a dealership with the VIN in hand and ask them for service records. The carfax won't have anything related to turbo replacement or maintenance. |

It's disappointing to see that some consider 83k a lot of miles. My 07 passat has 138k miles and is like new, i have a nissan rogue with 120k that is like new, all my cars in the past have been well over 130k and no major issues.
I wonder if the sting of high dealer repair costs has burned some people in the past and they no longer want a BMW or to recommend one. |

Anyway, I appreciate all the responses from everyone. Very helpful. Still kinda undecided lol. Im thinking if it drives perfect, makes no rattling noises, shifts perfect, passes a pre purchase inspection while paying attention to the common trouble areas that I have written down, I should be ok.
Of course, now that Ive said that, on the drive home the water pump will probably go out...the turbos will start rattling...all sorts of leaks will appear . lol |

07 with 114k. Wastegate rattle leading to CEL's was the only major issue I have had. I was planning on upgrading to RB turbos at the time anyways, so that was just the last little push I needed to pull the trigger. I'm very happy with my 335.

I agree with J38.
People here saying it's too high of mileage probably have never kept a car longer than 100k. Different cars, but my 323 already has 180k+ and I had a DD Cobalt SS/SC with 166k before I sold it to a friend. Start your maintenance and it will go a long way. I say buy it. I also agree with you being still ahead even if you did have to put a few grand in repairs. |

I bought a twin turbo S4 with 93K miles about 3 1/2 years ago... Sold it to buy my 335i... It had 120K miles and ran perfect... If you're worried about 83K miles, then don't buy it and let someone else enjoy it!

Guys, thanks again for all the responses.
I have been researching all the DIY's for this car, and feel comfortable with walnut blasting, oil filter housing, auto trans fluid change, and the water pump change, injector swap, and coils/ plugs. Only ones I am worried about is the turbo change if necessary. Based on my research, I should be able to notice if the turbos have the WG rattle by parking it next to a building and revving it, and listening for the noise. If I don't hear that and we pass the inspection, I would guess we are in good shape. |

Buy it it's a good deal. I bought my 07 335i 110k miles for $12,400. I would do it again and again. If your a do it your self guy like me then maintenance isn't that bad. Every car eventually has issues wether it be low miles or high miles. Like yours the problems that come with have already been addressed. Those with low miles will eventually have to get the work done. So what does it matter. Go for it.

My advice: buy it. That sounds like a great deal for someone like you that doesn't mind doing their own work. That was the case with me when I got my 330xi with 120k on it, everyone was telling me it was going to be a money pit but so far the only things I have done are regular oil changes myself and I did the rear brakes. I love working on this car anyway. You're plan to get a PPI is a good idea too.

Some people are just so wary of what the common idiot says about luxury cars. If your not a afraid to turn a few wrenches these cars really aren't that expensive to own. |

Alright guys, the PPI and test drive is tomorrow at 10 am. I'll either report back here with pics of my new car or a statement that said too many issues on the inspection or test drive.
