E90 N47 engine vibrations
Hello
I've got some engine vibrations when running idle. Not sure if engine should vibrate like this or not The vibration's frequency is quite high, hard to capture on video. Instead, you only see the engine cover moving slowly in the video. But in fact it vibrates very quickly When removing the cover, the engine itself vibrates even quicker, so on video it looks still. I wonder what the cause might be and where to start looking for it. |

You may want to try the euro forum as there will be more folks with your engine set-up there. I was recently reading up on carbon buildup issues in the intake manifold, swirl flaps, and egr valve (along with other possible swirl flap issues). You may want to check this out via search as these seem like the most common issues (although I'm not sure if they are for the n47).
Do you think one of your engine mounts could be going bad? |

Do you feel the engine vibrations from the driver's seat? Or is it just visual when you look at the engine? I had bad vibrations with my M57 that were much larger than normal and were felt all the way through the interior. Mine were due to carbon build-up on the intake manifold and valves. http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=770163

No, I don't feel it inside. Only visual.
I saw your topic, I doubt carbon deposits on intake would cause that, a lot of cars have that. I cleaned intake on my older E46 (had a lot of oil in there too - from EGR) |

Wonder if you ever found out what was wrong with your car. Been having the exact same problem and no answers to be found.
Someone suggested to change the belt drive vibration damper (bmw 11237823191), but these puppies are quit expensive so would like to be a bit more sure before we caugh op the cash. Last edited by N47dislike; 03-07-2016 at 08:55 AM.. |

In my case a worn (but not failed) harmonic balancer (pulley, vibration damper) did contribute to an increased vibration and rattle. Past 1000 rpm though it seemed to be much smoother. New balancer fixed all of that.
