You can definitely go crazy with the configurator. If you're leasing, anything over $79k on a Cayman S/PDK doesn't count towards figuring residual, so you pay for the whole amount. That'll keep the OCD at bay.
They have ED, but it's an extra charge, a few thousand I think. Hard to beat the BMW ED deal.
my configured cayman is is $90,040 . so the porsche ed doesn't give you a hefty discount and you got to pay for it instead? i will be leasing how much do you think this will be at 36 months and 10k miles? hm... i wonder if i go on 6speed i can find a dealership selling alittle over invoice?

No way you'll get close to invoice, especially on an ordered car. I got offers from 0 to 5% off MSRP from the dealers in my state. Invoice is close to 10% off I think.
Assuming it's a PDK (if not, the max MSRP to calculate residual is lower) and you get 5% off and they mark up the buy rate by the same amt I'm getting, you're looking at about $1350/month.
You get killed on the numbers by being so much over the 79k limit, you have to pay 100% depreciation on the last 11k.

damn for real? i would hope to think that the guys over at 6speed would get like a few over invoice down there . if you stay in the 79k limit, do you mind telling me what your monthly price is at 36 month 10k a year?

with the new 998 turbo coming out as a 2013 model, used prices on the 997 are soon to drop even more. the used turbos with the ccb on them are gold .

have you looked into the cayman r?

Go for it! From a "drivers" standpoint, the Cayman S is probably the best car you can get for the money. Faster than the Carrera around a track, and the perfect feel from the mid-engine layout. Terrific car.

If you can get it for 75k, you're looking at $1040.

I've considered the R, not sure if I could get as good a deal, the allocations are more scarce. I haven't heard of anyone getting discounts on them. I'm not sure if I want the aerokit parts, could be easy to damage. Seems silly to take that car and load it up with things I need to make it a good DD. They also don't offer the packages in the R, so for what i want, it would be 6-7k more than the S. For someone who wants the aerokit and some of the design features included, it's a good savings over a similarly equipped S.
I'm sure the R has a higher max MSRP for lease calculations, but I don't know what it is.

Congrats on the Cayman S. One of the best car on the market today. You will enjoy it for sure.

I really like those, congratulations. Earlier Caymans (not sure what years) had intermediate shaft failures so it might have been better you went new.

What color did you choose?

Just placed my order. I think the Peridot will look great with the black wheels, interior and side stripes. Peridot is the color they introduced the Cayman R in, for some strange reason you can't order the R in this color anymore, only available in my car for a few months. Will be 1 or 2 Porsches this color in my area, the other is an R.
Got a May build date, should be here sometime in June.

2012 Cayman S
Peridot Metallic
Black Standard Leather
Design Package
PDK
Sport Chrono Plus
LSD
Infotainment with BOSE
Convenience Package
Heated and Ventilated Seats
SportDesign wheel with paddle shifters

Came in $65 under the max MSRP that can be used to calculate residual on a lease.
Thanks for everyone's help with my decisions.

The sound and feel of the V8 in the M3 is unbelievable, was very tempting with the great lease rates. Cayman will cost a couple hundred more a month.
m3 is amazing, one of the younger plastic surgeons over here just got one as his DD. just rather pricey for a 3 series...in and of itself, its a great car, what the 3 series should be for 40 K not 70K.

cayman >>>>>>> 911 ...but the 911 gets all the respect because it has the wins and has been perfected.

Since Porsche is also moving downmarket with a cheap boxster and cheap cayenne...Cayman is not a bad bet, the brand name ain't what it used to be.

I still think you should get as aston martin vantage (horrible car, but looks great) one of the opthos here rocks one...another has a cayenne turbo.

Cayman is quite light and agile...and that is a proper driver's car. I have more fun in a light, lesser powered car than a heavy turbocharged monster. You're just more connected with that lighter car...esp mid-engine.

Cayman is the most cost-effective midengine car you can buy...and instead you want to buy a front engined porker?

As a 2nd car, Cayman is great...plus since Porsche brand is going downmarket soon...911 doesn't have the appeal it used to...plus have you driven one? I don't like the weight distrubition of 911 when you drive it, you feel the weight at the back in the corners.

i think he was questioning why beemw wrote that he'd rather have a 335i over a cayman

I used to have an 08 Cayman S and then a C2S Vert.. I would say that the cayman is so good that it may have you choose it over the Carrera after one drive. Congrats on the purchase, the cayman drives much better than the M3 imo.

Congrats! The Cayman S is a pure driver's car. If I didn't need back seats and the practicality of a daily driver, I would have gone that route. But I still think the M3 makes a much better daily driver. Can't go wrong with either car. It's all about your priorities.

i test drove the 2011 cayman s immediately after driving a 997.1. for the money, you better off buying an used 911 or m3. i'm sorry but cayman s just wont cut it. seriously lacking top end and low end torque.

the caymans superior rear-mid engine handling capabilities wont even be a factor at legal speeds. end of the day all you got is a sup-par car that a 370z can do at half the price.

my 2cents. side-note, really impressed with the 370z.
