I did the mod yesterday and after driving the car with my 25 yr old son and wife in the car, we ALL agreed that the car sounded much quieter??? Rode with the windows down and the sound was definitely better and louder with the stock set up. Went back to stock in 2 mins.

For those who care.......

If you don't pin prick the hose with the ball bearing insert with the hose placed back on the tube stub you will induce a vacuum of 2-3 in of Hg from summer to winter temperatures. The positive pressure increase can be as high as 4-5 PSI (best guess) since the air will heat up a lot when the engine is running.

Acutally, i do care quite a bit, thanks orb for your insight. Now, what does that mean in layman's terms?

And is there a loss in low-end power from this mod AT ALL? There seems a lack of "sure" knowledge on this point. i took it off and then re-attached it after 2 weeks or so. What's your take on this modification?

The mod will not reduce power. If anything power and response should increase. It is a restrictive device and it only purpose is to reduce noise at low RPM. I like the sound a lot better now.

From my own experiences the pressure and vacuum forces will not move the ball bearing. I don’t think you have to pin prick the hose to equalize to atmosphere pressure but it is a good idea and would recommend it.

I made a small hole in the hose so it does vent/suck when tested. You can’t even see the hole and it not going to leak in water or dirt.

I did the mod tonight. Completed it in about 45 seconds after removing the vacuum line. Used the ball bearing method and plugged the line....

Adds a nice throaty sound at all shift points at low rpm....

...less restriction of any type is mo better on a turbo car....

I did this mod 4 days ago now... and I really love it, the car is much louder in all the low RPM's and partial throttle... the little valve is closed more often then you would think!

I think the 328's and 330's also have this on their dual tip muffler, on the right side tip.

+1. Exhaust note is definitely louder now (but not obnoxious loud).

+1. It's a very simple and great mod. Exhaust note is as it should be, a bit louder and no drowning at all. I love this mod ( ball bearing )

I agree, that's why I was wondering if it is possible to remove the flap completely without replacing the exhast tip? That is what I would like to do since even with it open all the time it is still adding some turbulence and restriction even if it is negligable.

its more than just noticable... its freaking OBVIOUSLY louder... check your flap, make sure its open all the time... some people have had issues with vaccum not getting sealed up, and the flap still closing
