This thread is filled with a lot of miss information IMHO. Needless JB+, and SSTT bashing. Both do the same thing with JB+ being more advanced because you can adjust the settings. You need to get SSTT2, to adjust the settings, like JB+. JB4 is in the same league as Procede, COBB, GIAC, and other advanced tunes. Nothing wrong with them, as long as you save up money for the inevitable increased wear and tear on OEM parts, like the engine, HPFP, and Transmissions.
OP seems to be primarily concerned with obtaining dyno graphs, in order to compare JB+ on max vs JB4 on its lowest setting. Here are graphs you can use to compare: 2008 335I Steptronic JB4 on lowest setting BMS filter 96 octane http://bmw.pencilgeek.org/showDyno.php?recID=413 2008 335I steptronic Britalman exhaust JB+ (most likely 50%) 91 octane http://bmw.pencilgeek.org/showDyno.php?recID=416 |

Old thread but rather than start a new one...I'm trying to decide between JB+ and JB4.
- I will never run meth - I will never run E85 blend - I can't buy 93 octane What I really want is smooth power off idle, and that extra pop for passing and freeway merges. And for kicks. What I don't want (and what seems to come with the JB4) is hassles over misfires or other engine codes. This all seems to point me to the JB+, but the JB4 is more sophisticated in many ways... A thought...can the JB4 be detuned down a bit from Map 1? Say, closer to the JB+? |

When I had the jb+ on my car it caused misfires and my fuel pump failed, happened 2x's. switched to the jb4 and haven't had a problem sense.
The jb4 is worth the money, much safer imo

I'll put it this way, if you had any tune on you car it would have happened, given the history of misfires/HPFP issues with our cars on even stock setups. JB4 has the most power under the curve compared to the JB3, so it's very much worth it! JB+ is just a tease IMO. |

I exchanged some emails with the JB guys. I ordered the JB4 since it manages/monitors more functions (oil temp, exhaust flap, water pump, etc.). The ability to read/reset engine codes is also a nice feature. Don't have to buy a separate device for that.

Besides the CPS wire. Does the full JB4 G5 have control over ignition timing or does it rely on the DME to do that?
