ipod integration options

I have a 2007 E92 335i with BMW professional radio, no i-drive. It has Bluetooth and aux but no USB.
I'd like to be able to control my iphone songs through my steering wheel controls.

What are my options for adding this? I'm confused with all this 6FL stuff. I am able to code my car no problem.

6fl is usb and aux for iPod control via steering and head unit

Personally I prefer controlling half my music from my iPhone

With the new hands free distracted driving laws around here the last thing you want to be doing is reaching down to your phone to be selecting songs. I find it an annoyance to change songs on the phone

was about to say... which module does your Bluetooth? check out the boot floor.... either a TCU or a Mulf

but without iDrive not sure if this advice is valid... because not sure how u would see what's going on to navigate

if u r lucky and have the Mulf you can adds the wires get some software coding done and away u go

the Mulf is what allows the USB connection a secondary feature is BT. Canada I think got euro spec Mulf, USA got TCU (TCU does BT and some basic internet stuff if you put a sim in it and pay BM for the service). You can have both modules as std.

Mulf is on fibre network so signal with ends up at head unit ??? does the display allow u to navigate??? youtube videos?

this one shows someone fitting on non iDrive head unit

at risk of being half wit that's a TCU... anything under it (like another module) ? the post above is swapping out your old kit for the later spec professional head unit that has BT and USB build in to head unit.... would be a better way

note any extras stops BM updating the car software.... aftermarket could still do it BUT they don't.... if car is original software (MOST ARE!!!) stuff like engine management, diagnostics etc. and if auto especially, could still be running buggy rubbish from 2007.... its possible for a dealer to bring it to current latest updates (which are dependant upon kit fitted... very unlikely to have anything newer then 2010 available...) although my 2007 got security update from late 2013 and when whole car was later updated a retrofit guy did some work and couldn't believe some of the software my 2007 car now had as he'd never seen it before.... it had been done by BMW in Jan 2014 (it went much faster did 10% better economy and the gearbox was transformed !) BM charged 1 hr and took 3 to do it, aftermarket with auto logic quoted 8 hrs and 1k to do it !!!

so its always best to get car updated then add toys afterwards....

.... what I was saying was you have a TCU unit it doesn't do USB audio and as you have no iDrive and your radio is really old how will you see how to control any devices?

a better way would be the unit in the video, its all moved from the boot to the headunit has a bigger display, does BT, USB and no doubt if you buy the right one sirus (??)
