Reason I ask is your car with the options you listed only adds up to $48,250 (includes destination charge too.) The sun shade is $350 - that's the difference between the MSRP you listed ($48,600) and # I calculated ($46,250.)

Assuming you do have the sun shade option and the car's MRSP was $48,600, invoice is actually $44,735 so you actually did a little better than you thought ($2165 over invoice.) FYI, I got all my info from www.kbb.com.

If the car is going for around $1500 over invoice, then it's no big deal to pay a relatively small amount more to get the car right now vs. ordering it. I totally understand your perspective. Curious. . .was the dealer willing to give you that price regardless of whether or not you bought one off the lot or ordered one? In my prior car buying experiences, the dealers were always way more willing to negotiate on their inventory vs. placing an order with them. Admittedly, my prior cars were not in the 335i league - all Fords, Chevys and Hondas in fact! Maybe it's different. . .maybe it's not.

Although no one seems to want to answer this question, I'll ask you as well - did you have a trade-in?

I'm going to guess not give your deal. As you said, I think the true current market price of the 08 335i sedans are closer to $1500 over invoice if you strip away the "noise" in a car deal (such as the value of a trade.)

We can all get a killer deal "at invoice" if we are trading in a car and we allow the dealer to significantly undervalue the trade! That's been my point. This information would make this entire thread even more valuable than it already is, but for some reason no one wants to let us in on this detail of their "deal" (I've asked several people in this thread.) Maybe because they didn't really get a good deal when you include the undervalued trade-in allowance.
I did not have a trade in. I did the math again and the MSRP did come to 48650....heres how...
Base Price 38900
Steptronic AT 1275
Paddles 100
Comfort Access 500
Park Dist Con 350
Navigation 2100
iPod USB 400
Premium 2550
Sports 1700
Destination 775
TOTAL 48650
INVOICE 44960
PAID 46900

AHHH! I just noticed I forgot to put the iPod USB adapter in there on my previous post. To answer your other questions, I did not ask the dealer that said they could order it for me if they would deal for a car on the lot because I knew they didn't have the car I wanted. I am guessing I was close to rock bottom with them though, whether I ordered or took one off the lot. Both of these dealers had plenty of '07's still on the lot, so the dealing on the '08s was not easy because of this, they were really pushing me on the '07s. This was my first time negotiating a BMW, in my research I found it very hard to pinpoint on a price for a loaded up '08. I was not as confident of the price to shoot for as I have been in the past buying less luxurious cars. When all is said and done though I feel fine and love my car. Thanks for the vote of confidence for paying a little much, I appreciate.

Thank you for posting the rest of the details. This is the first and only total disclosure in this entire thread that allows a completely clear picture of what the 2008 335i sedans are essentially going for. Here's one for $2165 over invoice. Not a bad deal given the load of 07's still on dealer lots + you got it NOW and not 60 days later. Thanks again!!!

You pay the same sales tax where you live for the car regardless of where the dealer is located (at least for dealers located within your home state; not sure about out-of-state purchases.) Otherwise, dealers in high tax areas would have a competitive disadvantage due to a higher sales tax. I know it's this way across the Midwest states but I suppose it could be different in a few other states. Title and Licensing fees are a simple pass-thru from the state gov. to the customer, so there should be no difference whatsoever for those fees among dealers. Not positive, but I believe it's even illegal to mark up such pass thru fees in most states.

Another bull-shiznit fee that does appear on new car purchases would include "document preparation" or "doc" fees. Total baloney fees, but depending on the market for the car you are purchasing you may have to pay it. It usually isn't more than $150-$250. In the past, I've asked dealers to waive this fee and they always have. My last two car purchases didn't include such a fee - I didn't even have to ask they just didn't even put it in. Maybe it's less common now.

I need to reseach this "MACO" fee or whatever it's called.
The "doc prep" fee is complete bullshit. $250 to fill out the paper of what I owe? dumb. Anyways I had no extra fee's tied to my deal. No prep fees, and no MACO fee. I don't even know what MACO is.

i got a quote on a 2008 335i sedan , heres some details i remember, more importantly i want to know if this is just an "okay" or a stellar deal. I would like to bring the car home in the next few days, so i need a lot of input.

Ok here it goes: money factor was .00215. Can be.00200 with a security deposit. i cant remember what the residual of the vehicle was I want to say 63% but im not 100% positive. But anyhow it was a 12K lease, for 36 months with $847 driveoff, payments are $555 + $45 tax= $600.
MSRP was $43,625. Selling price was $41,xxx, heheh cant remember, 41,200......41,400 something in that range, anyway i know it was less than 41,500.......a believe invoice is $40,115 on this particular vehicle.

335i Sedan in detail:
Base Price: $38,900
Destination Charge: $775
Exterior Features:
Black Sapphire Metallic $475
Interior Features:
Black with Leatherette Upholstery and Burl Walnut Wood Trim
Options:
STEPTRONIC Automatic Transmission $1,275
Sport Package $1,700
Paddle Shifters $100
iPod/USB Adapter $400
Price As Built: $43,625

Also any options that I'm gonna regret not getting? thx in advance

PS: Not to sound weird but i have to ask, can I do ED, and not go for some "unforeseen" reason. would that work? would they just ship it here? Also it says $2,700 off msrp. does this carry over to final negotiated selling price? IE: if a car is msrp'd at 43,625 and im able to get it for 41,000 will there then be a 2,700 discount? making it 38,300???

I was able to get $400 over invoice on an order
options:
ZSP+automatic+leather+paddleshifters
(e90 4-dr)
---
35790---base
180---training free
400---MACO fee
775---destination
1210---auto tranny
90-----paddleshifters
1545---sport package
132----leather
---------
41,310
+400 over invoice
=======
$41,710 + TTL

call it $800 over invoice if you live in an area w/o the MACO fee. not a single dealer in my area would budge on it (tried all 10 within 50 miles)

Awesome - thanks for posting! MACO and Training fee - still need to research this. Don't know what they are and that they may not apply in certain states?

If you bought the car and didn't have a trade-in, then you definitely got a great deal.

If you bought it but got less than kelly blue book/wholesale on your trade, then maybe not so much . .. let us know so we can get more value out of this thread! Thanks!!!

Leased outright. No trade-in.

I've noticed a couple people mention that they've gotten their car out the door for under MSRP and I'm a bit confused how that works out. I'm pricing the following car at home w/ invoice prices and as soon as i add TTL, even on the base invoice, I come out above MSRP. Please let me know if I'm doing some of the math wrong.

All invoice prices:
335i - $35,790
ZSP - 1,545
ZPP - 2,320
205 - 1,210
465 - 430
2XA - 90

Without training/MACO fees, that comes to $41,815. Tax and License adds another $3,790 (3,450 + 340 assuming 8.25% tax in CA) for a grand total of $46,380 w/ destination ($775). The MSRP on the car with those options (before TTL & Destination) is $45,475. Can anyone explain why I come out $905 higher than MSRP or if that's just normal?

thanks in advance for the help!

when people list how much over invoice they typically don't include tax tag and title so i'm pretty sure it's perfectly normal...

Hi,

I got about 1700 off MSRP. They started with 1000 just via an email request and we went from there. Took about a week for me to negotiate this to the end.

I am in South Fl and paid OTD 42,704.06 for the following config:

2008 E90 328i
Jet Black/Black Dakota Leather
steptronic
premium pkg
sat radio
xenon headlights
usb/ipod
sport pkg
paddle shifters

Includes dealer prep and 6.5% tax, new tag, tire/battery disposal fee, etc.............

Am on the Integrity and expect/hope for delivery just before Xmas!

Vista BMW Pompano was my dealer. I am very happy with this deal and their service.....

Good luck to all!

Gerry.

HAAH your lucky over there.

just got me a 318I - in Denmark i had to pay 100.000 US for it. And it then comes with nothing - nothing at all. Only metal paint.

For 35.000 we can get a wery wery small car with a 1.0 L engine - like suzuki or something like it.

We have sick taxes over here. And we are so close to the BMW factory.
Btw - and then we pay 2$ for 1 L gasoline.

A 335I with everything almost costs 200.000$ here. There are only few on the roads.
18" wheels = 5.000$ ekstra - navi = 10.000 ekstra..... and so on.

Just got the following quote I wanted to run by you all. Let me know what you think or if there's anything I'm missing.

335i sedan
Sparling Graphite / Lemon / Poplar
Steptronic
Paddle Shifters
Premium Package
Sport Package
Folding Rear Seats
Navigation

Invoice Price: $44,500
Offer on the table: $45,260.

If you assume $400 for MACO and $160 for training, I think that's just $200 over invoice. Has anyone had any real luck waiving MACO/training at this price range?

Thanks for the help in advance.

Looks like a great deal if your numbers are accurate. MACO and training fees are hard to negotiate, but it can be done...but if you're CA is treating you well, don't fuss over a couple of hundred dollars. The CA and dealer have to make some profit too...keep that in mind.

In regards to TTL , next time I'll skip this and do it myself.
I ended up with a title and registration that stated the car is a BNW.
I didn't even notice until my third traffic stop!

DoubleL, great detail!

My info is old, but paid $1,200 over invoice in Nov 2005, and no other fees whatsoever (no Maco, no training, no state inspection). There was no trade. There were no negotiations. Just walked into the dealer and said we can place the order today at this price, yes or no? They said yes.

Car was Priority 1 (customer ordered), not from dealer inventory.

Here's what I recently paid for a 335i here in Northern Virginia:

08 335i Sedan
Sparkling Graphite
Black Dakota Leather
Metallic Paint
Steptronic
Premium Package
Sport Package
Cold Weather Package
iDrive/Nav
iPod Connection
Paddle Shifters
Satellite Radio

My MSRP was $49,870; invoice was $46,265 (inc. $200 MACO and $180 training fees). My final cost was $47,320. This works out to $1,055 over invoice, or $2,550 off MSRP.
