Do TDI Drivers Get Annoyed At You?

So I was at a small a gas station, the kind with four pumps and eight parking spots (one on each side of the pump) -- with only one pump (two parking spots) offering diesel.

A VW station wagon TDI pulled up on the other side of the pump (I knew it was a diesel from the sound of the engine) and when the driver got out I started talking to him about how hard it was to find diesel in the area (I was not familiar area so I had to ask directions and drive for ten to fifteen minutes to find a diesel station).

So when he realized I was driving a diesel and he admitted that at first he was pissed off at me for taking up one of the two diesel spots.

Frankly, I would see the opposite. We are furthering their cause. Only 3% of cars purchased are diesel in US. Consequently, you can't just take your car anywhere to have it worked on. Broader customer base will cause garages to react and have staff to support turbo diesel. I would think VW TDIs have alot better chance of finding a good indy capable of decent mechanic work. We are the ones having to hunt. I took car to indy this last friday. It was his first bmw diesel. All he did was change engine coolant in terms of engine work performed.

That sucks, I wouldnt want to be hit by a heavy diesel engine (even if it is a 4 cyl) flying out of the compartment of a VW TDI either.

I wonder how much heavier the VWs TDIs are than their petrol counterparts.

Gas VW and Diesel VW all use iron blocks, as well as all Audi's, BMW uses an Aluminum block...

It's just funny because some VW TDI owners are so surprised when they run into a late-model diesel car owner from a different brand.

I dont blame them, most diesel cars I see are VWs. I wonder what the ratio of VW TDIs to all other brands of diesel cars on the road is in the U.S.

2 to 1?

There would probably be fewer diesel stations out there without VW's cars on the road.

I've had two TDI's, a Sportwagen and a golf, 2011 and 2012 respectively. APR tune and Revo tube. Both slow as molasses. Enough power to feel fun, but mash the pedal and nothing more. Just couldn't live with it.

You two crack me up. A work buddy with a 2009 Jetta Wagon with ~90,000 miles has mentioned decreased fuel mileage. He is down about 2 mpg. I mentioned CBU but he isn't much of a mechanic. He has plenty money to pay for clean up though.

You don't need money to clean a TDI intake. They're made of metal.
Just treat it like a DPF regen.

Very cool, now I know why BMW usually just replaces the CBUed intakes.
