Will it crank at all?

If you get light when u press the button once and it cranks it's your starter. If no lights it has to be battery.

Lights come on and I get a weird click sound when I push the button. I had it towed a couple hours ago and it's at the dealership now.

My starter died. And numerous others reported grinding starters. That's the first sign of failure.

Hmm surprising..starter life should be at least 10 yrs..but why should the starter be any different than all the other components on these cars..just to put things in persepective..I have a 93 talon..19 yrs old..original starter..

I am starting to think BMW plans the failure and obsolence of their engine parts.

Lol! Just the '06s have this issue for the most part. They have a bad bendix bushing that gets sticky when it's cold. That's why it grinds at first since it doesn't retract properly. Eventually it won't extend. That's what happened to mine.

A few days it will dip below freezing but normally the lowest is about low 40s.

did you try to jump start it? if it jumps then the battery is bad if it doesn't jump then its your starter...is your car a stick shift? if so push start it. worst case scenerio check your fuses
