Can't really get hold of the originals. Came out early 80s - using an 540 motor or if you were really lucky and had money you could get the RS Gold motor.. such great fun those things, and then Tamiya went all really mass market and made crap for so many years afterwards. They've only just rereleased the original models, and they are exactly the same as before. Am going to get one when I get back home.

There's no point - most have been crashed and wrecked, and the polycarb tubs can only take so much abuse before they get bent out of shape. The new ones are exactly the same

So they are a re-release then ?
Damn, I thought they had somehow found some old stock... There was one motor even better than the gold.... ........ ..... yeah well i forgot what it was called but it was the black one, dynamoment or terminator or something ? Dominator ? and no, not the sprint or the endurance.... I have one somewhere.... I'm sure. SJ |

Well research so far has SCARED ME !
These things have moved on a LOT guys... to be honest they all seem to be mainly based on a set of known chassis with interchangeble bodies. Not like the good old days... seems like all the cars I gave away are now worth a few bob though.. Especially Avante.... should never have given that away... Damn ! I think the engine I ended up with was a Dynotech, but the images I remember look different to what i've seen so far, so maybe it's moved on too ? SJ |

nope welcome to all... as long as the contribution is worthy
I think there may be some frustration when Stateside owners forget that things sometime run differently over here, i.e. our dealers responsibilities etc... and make unhelpful sugestions, but they do seem to be few and far between other than that go for your life :P |

Got a Tamiya Hornet in the garage (RWD instead of 4WD so lots of drifting fun), but like the look of some of the other re-releases.
As regards crap presents, this must have been some sort of (really shit) joke? WTF From an aunt who I honestly thought liked me and the miswah!! And the tunes it plays (happy birthday, here comes the bride etc) are truly awful. This is one for the charity shop tomorrow! |
