Shipping Apple products overseas

Just want to warn other people, so that you don't have to deal with what I am going through now.
I shipped an Iphone 5S & Ipad 4 to my cousin in Russia via USPS Express. Both packages arrived 2-3 weeks late, and the boxes were empty when she got them. Russians were nice enough to re-seal the boxes prior delivery. My cousin went to court but they couldn't do anything, because the judge blamed the USPS..

Next time, I will pay the additional $200-$300 and ship through FedEx or UPS.

you didn't insure the package when you shipped it?

I did, but insurance is only good in the U.S.
I doubt that the USPS stole the products. I am 100% sure that customs or postal people in Russia did this. The problem is that it is impossible to prove it.

I am 100% sure that customs did this, because when I tracked the packaged "customs" were the once that took an additional 2-3 weeks to process, and what sucks is that we can't do anything.

I lived out of the country for a couple of years and learned it was a roll of the dice to ship anything outside of a letter. "Express" delivery outside of the U.S.? You are at the mercy of the other country.

If you ship anything overseas try DHL - they specialize in difficult to get to areas of the world (read everywhere). I routinely use them to ship to Africa and they haven't missed a beat. While USPS has tracking, the package will fall into the hands of the local posties on the receiving end - good luck at that point. I have had marginal rates of success using USPS small package service in the USA, even with tracking, they simply aren't set up to handle anything other than first class mail.

I ordered my girlfriend special green tea chocolates from Japan for a stocking stuffer, and when the package came, US customs ripped apart the package, and the box the chocolates were in.

I was pissed.
